28mm ACW - Which rules do you recommend?
« on: March 01, 2013, 02:31:58 PM »
Hi all,

So far I am leaning towards Black Powder for ACW which from what I've read plays well as a game but lacks some historical flavour. I am new to ACW gaming so want to start with a skirmish game, and when I start getting forces painted up will look for a "bigger" (eg more units) game.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

KT

Bull Run to Gettysburg

There's also the Terrible Sharp Sword supplement to Sharp Practice for skirmish games:

Mr. Lincoln's War

Edit: Sorry, I just realized you want to start with skirmish rules...  this is better for larger than skirmish rules.

Gracias,

Glenn

Looks like people prefer Bull Run to Gettysburg. Why?

For skirmish I use Brother Against Brother in 25/28mm.

istoricon last year.Fire & Fury Brigade or Regimental in 15mm for bigger battles - though I did see F&F Regimental in 28mm at Historicon 2012.
Wargamers do it on a table.

I can only speak for myself, as I wrote them  :), so I obviouly think they suit the type of game I enjoy. Others will have to answer for themselves.

Are you referring to game mechanics?  D6 versus D10 versus multiple dice types?  IGO-UGo versus alternate activation? That kind of style?

Can you elucidate that were the parameters you strove to fit into the design?

Gracias,

Glenn
