From googling and looking at images the round sheilds seem to be a smaller version of aztec style, now whether they are feathered is a different matter. The design on the face may be the key.

someones eaten the images!! i tend to agree with you as im of the opinion that the "Mayans" if we use the collective term...used Aztec inspired shields at least on a small scale. what else do you put on a shield if you have forests full of splendidly attired birds almost of paradice! . having said that the Mayans were very individualistic and im sure used the wicker/animal hide/jade encrucsted images we have chatted
about.

Supplementary to the email I sent with other suggestions for images, these may also be of interest. I recall mentioning face pattern shields, on closer inspection many appear to be variants of the Jaguar gods face in various stylisations, which would be entirely logical on reflection.
