FOR THE MOTHERLAND!

Liking the cover art, no complaints on that front...but what the hell is that...that thing you get with it?, THAT is the exclusive model?, are you serious?...somebody please tell me that is a joke, nobody would surely want that lump of disfigured, bland, poorly sculpted piece of junk?, it looks like a GW model.

Other than that looks like a nice book in a boring overall newsletter.

It's a flag. What you never made them out of lead wine bottle top covers?

There must be a strong wind blowing on the steppes.

I think my favourite flag I made was from some rusted wire fence material, cardboard and sellotape.

Not at all, I just dislike really awful stupid models, and since GW and mantic make faaaar too many to post about warlord gets it instead, this one gets it though because its an awful sculpt, a boring sculpt, a silly model AND its fobbed off as exclusive because they know it would never otherwise sell.

But if I hated warlord I would not of brought Albion triumphant, which I like allot...just wish they would hurry up releasing one for the important campaigns.

Well, it's not really my taste either.

I don't know why, but the last couple of years worth of new releases from Bolt Action just don't interest me. I find the figures to be caricatures, and very roughly sculpted by the original BAM standards. And don't get me started on the gurning faces and hyperactive poses either- they simply do not match the older ones in terms of style. The vehicles, on the other hand, are still excellent.

It's Warlord's hyperactive prose that does it for me - 'Wham! Bam! Sexy Waffen SS! Yeah! Super, smashing great! Superlative adolescent hyperbole! Gotcha!'
...It's like reading The Sun crossed with Commando Comic out of White Dwarf...
Ghastly.

I hesitate to join in with what is starting out as a Warlord bash as, by and large, I like warlord, and I like Bolt Action- but what is wrong with their BA Japanese? Have they never seen a Japanese person? T Hey are all buck toothed and squinting through bottle-bottom glasses. It's an unpleasant, cartoonist stereotype, and I think it's verging on being racist.

If I was Japanese I think I might be offended by it.

Oh well can't win them all I suppose. One of mine I enjoy doing the special figures for the books. On closer look the detail is there and up to my usual standard otherwise I would not send him out.

This was taken before the flag was removed for easier casting and also smartened up. Thanks for the constructive criticism ;)

The figure is ok, but the flag doesn't seem quite right.
Don't know why.
Maybe it's the ragged edge - I've not seen a photo of a Russian flag with a ragged edge like that.
From a reenactment perspective, carrying a flag that size in a breeze would probably need 2 hands to avoid trouble, but I'm not a muscular Russian.

Gentlemen- my apologies for adding my voice to this thread earlier.

I've made no secret of the fact that I really dislike the newer Warlord-era additions to the sculpting of the original Bolt Action Miniatures. I find the sculpting to be rougher than the original figures, and the hyper-dynamic poses and gurning faces leave me cold. As each person has their own tastes, it is up to each of us to determine what they do or don't like. While I can't sculpt a figure to save my life, I appreciate the talent that goes into it. I also appreciate that no two sculptors have the same style, and that the new crew at Warlord wanted to put their own stamp on the ranges, but I do feel that they could have stayed loyal to the general style that Warlord had, and not gone totally comic-book action figure or cartoon-style.

Now that I've got that off my chest, feel free to rap me across the knuckles if I should happen to say anything about Warlord again.

That's a great figure - what's everyone going on about? ;)

(Still hate Warlord's crass, shouty marketing though)

seriously, how can people who have lived in the hobby for the last 10 years NOT see that Warlord is GW in historical disguise?
Same people, same strategies.... The new Bolt Action rules...
Even if they are not formally linked (which I will only believe when they lay open the funding on the Kayman islands)

isn't it obvious what spirit blows through the streets of Nottingham?  ;)

I'm British and offended by them, I admit they were allot worse than this.
I have little issue with the warlord plastics though, its just all the WWII metals that just have terrible unrealistic poses and the faces, the shouting, grunting and taking a large dump faces ruin it, yet the ECW metals are lovely models, they did great on those.

The model would of been better in a more dynamic pose, or perhaps on a more scenic base, a basic trooper (maybe even female to make it unique) running forward, both hands on the flag, calling urrah as she runs forwards.
Or posed on a fallen statue, one leg standing on hitlers face, waving flag on high.
Standing, pointing a pistol, straining to take a dump is just your typical GW model.
