I met the guys from warlord at the tactica. Nice guys. New GW, I dont think so. They bring a lot of stuff. I like it, but it is my opion. They seem to have success, but they worked for it. A company needs success to go on.

They figure for the Sovietbook is nice, but typical Paul Hicks. You like it or you hate it. Nothing inbetween. I like it. And the good think is, that you can also use it for RCW.

Every time a company in this hobby-business becomes bigger it will be compared to GW. This is not good for the hobby, I think.

Every time a company in this hobby-business becomes bigger it will be compared to GW. This is not good for the hobby, I think.

... and having become bigger has to operate like a business and not some guy knocking stuff out in his shed. However for some reason being successful is disliked by some as a knee-jerk reaction... I don't get it.

I used to get fed up of companies producing a few figures for a range, then dropping it when it didn't sell as well as they thought it would. With companies like Warlord, they push and hype their stuff and ensure each 'army' of figures is as complete as possible. I really don't see anything wrong with that. In fact it gives me some confidence that by the time I actually paint the figures I bought, which is usually a while, I can still get some more.

They don't always get it right and there are a few figures which make me cringe. Having said that, there are a few manufacturers out there, whose whole ranges makes me cringe, there's even one or two ranges which look like they were modelled on present day 'super-size me' re-enactors - and people rave about them.

I would never suggest that anyone buys something on its name alone, nor should anyone be afraid to speak out when something is sub-standard... and yes that Japanese figure is awful, the others largely not so.

I'm not a Warlord fan boy (or maybe I am... hard to tell), but as far as I've experienced, they are responsive to customer comments and forge links with other manufacturers for mutual benefit, rather than compete with them. That's hardly the GW way of doing things.

I'll get you Butler!!!!

Seriously though, I think it's quite a nice figure and I quite like the flag as well. Would Mr Hicks be interested in producing some 1960s Russians?

I know of those, 1970s/ 1980s Red Army. IIRC correctly he also did the Brigade Games Atomic Café ones too. What I'd really like would be some in the WW2 era uniform with AKs, RPG 2 etc. Classic Cold War for me is the 1960s.

why not use Warlord Games/Bolt Action plastic Russians with Metal AK47- I know The Assault Group do metal AK47's, and I am sure other companies do too. It shouldn't be too hard to do. It also has the added advantage of not having the barrels break off, like the plastic BA guns do, because they are so thin.

£28 for 40

£4 for 10 or £16 for 40 (including P+P)

£28+£16= £44 for 40 1960's Russians - Simples  :D

For a number of reasons Rob, largely because I'm a bit anal about these things and because the Warlord Russians are a quaint mix of the pre-1943 gymnastiorka with the falling collar and chaps in the padded winter jacket, neither of which are especially useful for what I want. There's also the issue of having to replace all the personal equipment. Yes it could be done but I'm not sure I can be bothered.

Hear! Hear! Let's be honest, the 1980s was just the 'Slightly Chilly War' in comparison to the 1960s.  ;)

Loved the AC57 Soviets and some more serious versions of the same would find a home in my cupboard forces.  :)

The Wombles are a bit limited in scope due to the NBC gear, but fine models... anyway we're drifting away from WW2 and into the special happy land I mentally dwell in, where you can buy just about anything you want in 28mm, for any period.

That's why I always recommend Irregular Miniatures. Truly universal miniatures, they could be anything you imagine them to be and you don't have to squint too hard to get the effect.

I hesitate to join in with what is starting out as a Warlord bash as, by and large, I like warlord, and I like Bolt Action- but what is wrong with their BA Japanese? Have they never seen a Japanese person? T Hey are all buck toothed and squinting through bottle-bottom glasses. It's an unpleasant, cartoonist stereotype, and I think it's verging on being racist.

If I was Japanese I think I might be offended by it.

Really? I guess I should really pissed because nearly every mad scientist in a movie or miniature game is a German? Dam I hope the pigmies in Africa never see those Pax Limpopo figures from Eureka!

Now god forbid we bring Political Correctness in to this hobby because that will be the death of it! Soon we will have the "Zombie Anti-Defamation League" accusing us of bias because the zombies lose over 50% of the time, or the Arabs getting pissed that the "Harem Girls" in your game are shamefully dressed! Some people like their figures to have that over stated "character" look and good on them. This is playing with toy soldiers and lets not take it so serious. Anybody that is offened by the look of a figure is wound way to tight to be playing games were War and Death provide the meat and potatos for many of the scenarios we play, hardly politicaly correct to begin with. lol

Figures are subjective to the person buying them, you buy them because they have the look YOU want. It may not be the other fellows cup of tea, you hear it all the tme in the smaller scales, 10,15, 20mm, where some sculpters exagerte the head, or uniform parts to make painting easier and things stand out, others make their figures very animated, others are sticklers for excat measurements.....buy what pleases YOU!
