I am totally going to copy your idea for the smoke on the fire. I never thought of that... :)

There is a guy out there who goes by SeanKahn who was making smoke and fire out of cotton for his D and D minis and for his starship wrecks.  I stole it from him and I have to say it looks pretty cool.

I have decided too copy your project, but I'm going to make an Egyptian tomb theme.
I have been in the different jewellery stores, but they did not have boxes with so high sides/deep, so i'm looking for another way to get high quality boxes.

The Tomb walls is going to be a simple colour print of famour tomb paintings.

How tall was your boxes you are using?

The box is 10cm by 10 cm.  The height is 5 cm.  I thought that perhaps combining two boxes for some cavern terrain might look good.  The styrene brick sheets look great and only cost me 5.00 for the whole project.  I think Egyptian would look great.  Check out the Egyptian Toob on Ebay.  I got it from a craft store called Michael's.  It has some great scenery.  Here is mine

I have always had of dream of making a game/board with an Egyptian tomb, the whole mystics of tomb exploring.

I just don't see how I would make a whole board for this, or how to store such a theme board. And the next advantage of box design is you can change the tomb from game to game. But the easy storing of a "box system" for the tomb is really an advantage for me.

I will be looking for prober boxes now! Thanks for the advice on scenery.

You'll have to post some wip pictures, I have to spend some serious time developing rules.  I would really like to design a temple run game with 2 players competing for treasure.  If you got some large brick sheets you could use them as temple walls.  All you need is a few columns, snakes and you are ready to go!

I have not  looked on this part of the Forum for a while.
Boy, did I miss this 'gem' post.
Some great ideas to use,( I am looking to do some smaller games.)
Love your idea of the rooms, will have to use that.
Speaking of the rooms, they turned out great.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, after my Innsmouth table took up 3 paper copy boxes I have to scale down - literally.  With all my star wars, D&D, and pulpy terrain I've had to sell some of my early pieces to make room.  Letting go of my Sarlaac pit really hurt.  I was even thinking about scaling down to 15mm.  I really like the look of the rooms as well.  I may even use them for a dungeon crawl game.

Bergh's got me thinking about Egypt now.  Where am I going to find another 10 little boxes? ;D

Anyone can do this project, the actual terrain building is minimal, and it looks really good.
