Progress on the sling cart (New photos Ready for paint!)
« on: April 03, 2013, 04:39:47 PM »
I've been fiddling away on an ACW sling cart project and found some large Historex wheels to fill in for the sling-cart's large reinforced front wheels. I only had three, so I had to scratch build the reinforcing spokes and an entire fourth wheel.  The large Columbiad/Rodman gun shown is part of a paint brush handle, spun in my hand drill to shape and some plastic details added.  Google 'sling cart' to see where I'm headed.  Or check out the blog.  Regards, Rob.

Very nice piece. Make a good objective in a battle.

Here are a couple of update photos.  The two horse limber from a 25mm Napoleonic gun will be pressed into service for the sling cart.  This piece, including the horses was scratch built.

On the details of the sling cart, you can see bits of the Historex caisson wagon cut up and rearranged. The main timbers are a bit of bass wood stick and the white bits are Evergreen plastic or the Historex parts. The brown bolt head is a Grandt-line part.   If you recall the two sections of the sling cart are not identical.  The front unit has the reinforced wheels and has (or will have) what looks to be a bottle-jack type lift for the heavy end of the gun.  The rear, muzzle-end has large wheels and has a screw type lift.  The rear, right-side wheel is the scratch built one.

Added a few details with the Historex parts, some brass wire and a fine chain.  The strapping is adhesive tape "painted" with crazy glue. I also crazy gluded the chains to stiffen them up.  Ready for paint.  Just not sure what colour...
