Skirmish Sangin
« on: 04 April 2013, 06:02:37 AM »
Just wanted to say these rules are damned fun. Myself and two club members played the Compound 17 scenario tonight and an extremely entertaining firefight ensued with the Taliban racking up 250 VPs but then getting completely (or at least very close to it) blown apart by British UGLs.

Two IEDs going off in Phase 2 of Turn 1 completely threw the Paras into disarray including two of their members so in shock from seeing a buddy blow up that they remained inactive the rest of the game. Then one of the tough SAS SOBs having a medium wound and continuing the mission and getting some shots off. (We later realized that the SAS mission should have changed to ex-filling the wounded member but still was a cool moment)

What I learned, positioning is key. One Taliban with an RPK on high ground and hard cover was able to cause casualties and disruption. Also ending a phase in the middle of a field, no matter how badass and SAS you are, is not good!

For me the highlight was when one of my SAS operators running to stabilize a wounded team member took an RPG round to the chest without it going off.

I have this game in my to do list. Everyone who has played it seems to have a quite positive opinion on it.

It is super fun and reasonably simple for the high level of detail you can get into. It almost feels like it has a slight RPG element as it is very individual based.

I agree totally with you. Is a very good ruleset for modern combat games. I have my first game posted here too, and it was really fun.
