15 mm Stock Yard?
« on: April 10, 2013, 04:34:40 AM »
I want to build a 15 mm stock yard, US style - which basically means a five bar fence.   I don't want to use HO fencing if possible.  So, who makes something I might be able to use without scratch building the lot?

I don't mind building parts of it, figure I'll have to do the loading ramp.  I'm trying to find a good source for the fences.

Thanks for your ideas (also, photos of ones you've built - especially in 15 mm - will be enjoyed and appreciated.)

If you can find a good site that stocks the full line of Plastruct stuff I'd say give them a whirl.  BUT...their catalogue is horrible, and I've never found a proper site which sells the whole line/range.

 :(

Try some of the architecture supply sites perhaps - you can find any size of plastic rod/shape etc.  beyond that, no idea.

Give Peter Pig a Try.

This is in their scenery range.  Item 31. Fences (6 lots of 5cm=30cm total).

Had forgotten about the Peter Pig fence sections - and five bar.  Those just might do the trick for the pens.  Have to find out if Brookhurst carries them or not.  Still have to find a way to build a matching loading chute (or chutes since the yard I plan to build will have about a half dozen pens or so.  And I will need some stock cars for loading cattle into.

More suggestions welcome but thanks for the ones so far.

Hi,

Walthers used to produce a whole stockyard in their HO "Cornerstones" range - link http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/933-3047

and it looks like they have ramps too.

For Stock Cars, Bachmann used to produce some HO ones.

I think I have some plans for stock yard chutes for both sheep and cattle. I'll have to dig through a couple of my books though. You should be able to scale it for 15mm without a problem.

Heisler,

Appreciate the offer but I have good sets of plans, a whole book, on stock yards and related rail road facilities.
