28mm Elk models?
« on: April 23, 2013, 03:00:52 AM »
Does anyone know of any? My google-fu did not provide me with any leads, other than that Honorable Lead Boiler Comapny used to make them.  :?  Any help is much appreciated!  :)
Thanks,
Jim

Closest I've ever seen are some pewter ones done by a Wyoming artist for the tourist trade. I'll try to keep an eye out, I think the general store at Old Faithful had them last fall.

Best I can find with a quick check is Mega Minis male deer: http://freeboardgamesnow.com/animals.aspx

Of course, it is 25 mm, not 28 mm.  Next check was Irregular miniatures: http://www.irregularminiatures.co.uk/indexes/25mmindex.htm
Their stag can certainly pass muster as an elk if you can't find anything better.  Again, even though Irregular is now billing this as 28 mm, I think they used to be "25 mm."  Can't speak to that scale for Irregular, but I know their 15 mm figures are on the larger end of that spectrum so maybe their larger scale figures are as well.

Afraid that's the best I can point you towards.  Remember, Mega Minis requires very quick action since they are selling out and going out of business.  Hopefully someone picks up the animal range - with parallel anywhere I know of.

Check here to compare the two sculpts above with images of "real" elk:
http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=image+of+elk&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

Good luck with the hunt.

Either Reaper or Ral Partha or Rafm (I can't remember which) did a pack of North American animals which certainly included deer.

Also try different combinations with "moose".

Other than that, I have to echo the alternative of a stag, this time from Eureka Miniatures:

Found the Ral Partha one:

Is that close enough for you?

Thanks for the responses everyone! I think I may look into the eureka one.  Sadly, a deer model seems as close as I'm liable to get.  Elk are pretty huge so I was hoping to use them as mounts for my fantasy nomads, may think about converting horse models instead if the Eureka stag isn't big enough.

these are cool
I might even buy 1/48 caribou for 28mm moose, but the antlers would need a heavy GS job
