I highly approve of all of this.

Having painted nearly 40 of these, you really do need a way to paint them all without hating life.  Speedpaint shortcuts are your friend, and "done" beats "perfect" any day.
You, sir, are not allowed to attempt a takeover of the solar system until your octopus sobers up.

I painted a dozen Daleks once and I felt like I'd sandpapered my eyes by the end of it.  o_o

Good luck!  ;D

I think the trick to painting Daleks is only paint a few at a time. In batches of three or four it only feels like your dying, instead of being dead already. In batches of ten you can feel the chair beneath you decaying, and entropy consuming the planet. (I actually striped a dozen Daleks and re-painted them from scratch. I must have been insane.)

I completely agree with that, I've "only" painted around 20 of them but trying to paint more then a couple at the time was not a good idea.

OK, here's some encouragement. A nice group of painted Daleks do look really cool all together. Once you hit the ten mark you have more then most Dalek stories from the past. Hell, they used to do Dalek stories with as few as three Daleks back in the day. I know we're spoiled by the current trend to show hundreds of the beasties on screen at one time, but those are all CGI constructs. You will have actual Daleks in front of you, which is pretty spectacular. Isn't that what we paint all these miniatures for?

That's always the reward in this hobby, seeing those painted ranks lined up for battle  8)

I'll put this as polite as possible. No  ;)

Would it not be easier to use the colour of the domes as the priming colour and then use washes to fill the area between the domes?
No Scurv I'm still try to be a little bit historically accurate (despite them being fiction  ;) ) with the colour schemes.
I'm taking my inspiration from one of our resident experts in the field AnEvilGiraffe  8)

So one half will be this scheme:

The other as:

Although I'm not looking forward to the white. Hate painting white and have never been any good at it.
I will probably through in a few other styles depending on time. I quite like the idea of a unit in the WW2 green and an elite unit for the cult of Skarro  ;D

I'm up to 40 of these completely finished. I have about another 60.  I am stupid. I got through it by using multiple color schemes I did "units" of 4 comprised of different color schemes form the series and some of the old Dalek comics.
This is my boomstick!

Part 2 of my Dalek project is up on the website. I thought people might like a close up of the Daleks showing the production issues and challenges of getting rid of mould lines  >:(

Part 2 of the project is here.

Some of the close ups:

and showing that there has been some variation in the production of the Daleks. They were not all the same.

Right on with the cleaning  ;D

A lot of them are assembled very badly - big gaps and misaligned sections.  I don't want to depress you, but the best way I found was to use a craft knife to prise them apart, clean them up then glue them back together properly.   ;D

I share your pain though - this week I've built, scraped mouldlines off and painted 50 Eisenkern troopers - and my treat for this weekend is painting a couple of rooms  :'(
