That looks great, mate.
Just a few 'scratches' should be enough in the weathering department, I reckon.
The main body does look a bit too tidy, so will likely do something

It's a pity that the tyres are so flat though :(
Yes, rather balloon-like tyres with no tread whatsoever

Would you consider bringing this to BLAM this year?  ;D
Possibly, depending how I get on with all the other bits.  I don't actually have a specific game/scenario in mind so far, but will need to have a think about that at some time anyway.

Onto the "Gate Bus":

By undoing two screws on the underside, removing a small clip on one side and with a mild amount of brute force, the bus was disassembled:

The seating section was removed by levering it off 3 mounting pillars.  I wanted to replace some of the seats with drums of fuel etc (SPOILER: as per the film):

A section was removed and replaced with plastic card:

Space to add drums and other junk:

All the light fittings and side rubbing strips removed for repainting of the body.  Very easy to do by trimming the rear of each piece, which had been melted to hold in place:

The main body needs re-spraying, but the weather/time of year isn't particularly good to do so. :?

NO, still on for mega pirates. :)

I was hoping Paul would bring his Mad Max game as he has run it in the past and it was excellent. ;D

The bus body and interior has now been sprayed brown, as a basis for the re-painting in yellow.
The original dark blue was almost impossible to cover with straight yellow:

The basis of the second half of the gateway:
MDF base and block of blue foam to support the tyres and a walkway.  Textured with thinned household wall filler.

Groundwork painted to match existing terrain and baseboards.
Foam painted black so that the blue won't show through the piles of tyres.

The interior side, clad is various bits of distressed plastic card:

Tyres, lots of tyres:

The tyres came (mostly) from a farm toy set and spares sold for Corgi/Dinky diecast cars, plus a few from old 1/35 kits:

I'm glad I decided to get a variety of tyres as it looks more convincing than using identical ones.  Trying to arrange them "randomly" took a while...

Looking good Paul! What are the tyres made of, rubber or plastic? How are you planning to paint them if they're rubber?

I bought them on Ebay around 7/8 years ago.  I have no idea who the seller was except he was in the USA (L.A.?) and sold a wide variety of toys.  I bought 2 identical buses as the postage to the UK was no greater than for one.  They were listed as 1:50.  They are exactly the same size as the Ainsty derelict school bus, so I have little doubt the same model was used as the basis for the master.

They are rubber, so my intention is to just drybrush/weather them and hopefully matt varnish after.  I will need to do some tests before I do that to the tyrewall itself.

This project has had bits added to it on a very irregular basis for many years.  I would like to build most/all of the Mad Max 2 compound eventually, along with some MM3 Bartertown type shacks etc.  It doesn't really have a defined end, but gven how well its going so far, I would hope to add more before "Its alive!" ends in June.
