Cooplestone - Sailors, Guns, Czechs

I'm surprised that no one did it before, here come new Copplestone BOB's. I really like the Sailors, they have lots of character. The crew of the gun is superb, too. A bit disappointed with the Czechs, was expecting a bit more rugged models, they look too "neat" for my taste. Thus I will have some more efforts to get them through painting in the right way.

White Russian Field Gun (not sure if that's a new one)

Well, obviously I have to get the Russian Navy boys at some point as this as this, as you may have noticed, is the Year of the Sailor at the Casa del hammershield. I was fixin' to get the US sailors and marines next but with this release I may just change my mind.

Yup.  excellent.  I agree re the Czechs.  Not bad, but a bit more different from the other White Russians would have been better.  I cant make out what type of jacket they have on.  Anyone have an idea?

it's a good time to be wanting some sailors miniatures, in the meantime we've got complete crews for all periods on the 28mm market. That's a good thing.

I really like Copplestone's sculpting style, but I really wish he would make a new dolly once in a while. The Czechs all look like they are from the synchronized marching team.

I picked up the field gun and the Czechs at salute.

The field gun is nice and the Czechs well they feel a little too much like the  white infantry although looking in me osprey book they do look very similar. Scruffier would be good though.

My friend got the sailors he really likes them.

Really though about the dolly. I love Copplestone's stuff but the guys marching with rifles at 45 is getting old. How about a guy firing? I'm not opposed to dollys in general but at least use two or three of them.

I took the Russian Sailors Command at Salute.

There are superb (as usual).
I mix them with my sailor troopers.

Now time to paint ... perhaps for the LPL.

The sailors are superb, I agree.  However good point about the dollys.  He does have them, as there are firing figures on other (Red) figures.  He went through a poor patch before when he was doing the Brits/Sikhs/Ghurkas, which again looked like a synchronised marching team.  I thrink he was just trying to churn them out.  I'd have bought a lot more if theyd had a degree of variation in them.

Hey ho, what do we know, were just the customer!

Yes, I think it's the only criticism one can really level at Mr Copplestone...

I first realised a few years ago when I was painting 32 Baluchis from the Foundry DA range. I kept thinking 'this bit is very familiar'...
On closer inspection of course, you suddenly twig that they are not 32 different figures, they are 6 or 7 different dollies with head and arm variants!

Not that I'm complaining - they are still fab, and he is still the maestro

Yeah, I know it does seem a bit churlish to complain about it. It still bugs me, though. Especially when considering the cost to me in my worthless colonial greenbacks.
