Bayeux Tapestry Normans
« on: 11 May 2013, 04:38:53 PM »

I need to finish some Normans really really fast and thus I've tried to speed my way through these Conquest Normans to be used in SAGA.

As there's very little photographic material from the period I've based their colours on the Bayeux tapestry.

Some shield designs:

Great idea, I love the color range you used.

I have a gigantic book on the Bayeux Tapestry I haven't even cracked open :(

Looking very nice. Better than my Vikings for sure.
But you need to get your Normans some horses.

Yes. I've got 15 in the painting que. But I certainly hope you can play with just infantry as well. A lot of situations do not call for horses. Raiding a village and that sort of business.

The spider's web is brilliant!  :D

If that doesn't scare the enemy I don't know what will.

The free hand work you've done on those shields is first rate. Nicely painted bunch here.

That is some fine painting, and I really like the colour choices.  Very subdued and earthy.  Nicely done all around.

Thanks people. You're being way to generous though.

Really nice tones there.

Everything you see is achieved using washes over white undercoat. Very fast and 'OK' in the end I think.

When I have a lot of 40 it will look a lot better.

I don't know whether to keep on going with this style or go more traitional and colourful.

Keep going in this style - it's very eye catching.

:-* :-* LOVE these colors! I got Teshub a necktie one year with the Bayeux Tapestry printed on it. I wish I could get one with your Normans too! What a great set.

Mind you, I do feel the colours are a bit subdued...  ;)

Lovely idea to use the Bayeux shield designs though. You ingenious Dane.

Nice paint work, good idea on the tapestry.
Foot warriors for Normans in saga are completely useless, so ease up on painting more. I found out the hard way also. Read the battle board a lot, special stuff only works with mounted units and shooting units. I built three foot warriors and found myself only activating them normally and not gaining any fun stuff. It was very boring to play. It is ok in a six point game to take a unit of them as filler or a speed bump or a tactic distraction.
