Help/Advice with Finnish Defense Force
« on: May 16, 2013, 01:20:04 AM »
I was wondering if any of you guys who might have served in the Finnish Defense Force (FDF), or are otherwise interested in that sort of thing, might be able to answer a few questions.

I am planning a Force on Force campaign set in a current day Finland that has been invaded by the Russians. initially I was planning for it to be a 28mm campaign, with say 20-30 figures a side- small skirmish scale really. But following reading Aggrigos plan to fight out a Pacific War in 28mm and 6mm scales I began to look at 6mm scale and realised that it would be easy to get hold of all of the AFVs used by the Russians and the Finns in the microarmour scale, and that it might be fun to rip Aggrigo off a bit and mix the scales in my campaign.

So, with a tentative plan to try microarmour scale wargaming I began to look at the FDF at a bit more strategic level, but have found it quite difficult to find out any information about typical force compositions.

I did find out this information on Wiki..

This is the standing force of the FDF

1 x Special Forces Battalion (Erikoisjääkäripataljoona)
2 x Mechanised Battle Groups
3 x High Readiness (Jaeger) Brigades
5 x Regional Combat Groups
1 x Helicopter Battalion

But what does this mean? What is in a Mechanised Battle Group or a High Readiness Brigade? How many MBT? How many IFV? How many men? etc etc.

I don't want you to reveal any state secrets or anything, but I a general overview of what I should be fielding in my FDF force would be great.

I hope you can help.

Thanks.
