15mm Early War Soviet Strelkovy Batalon for Flames of war
« on: May 17, 2013, 12:22:59 AM »
The local Charlotte North Carolina Flames of War group http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/Charlotte-FOW/?yguid=149486145

Had an early War Flames of War Games day last Saturday. It was my first foray into early war and I chose to field a Soviet Strelkovy Batalon from the Poland Invaded! pdf from Battlefront website.

They chose 1000 points so we could get in multiple games. My force came in at 980 points. I had two Strelkovy companies of two platoon and two maxim hmgs each, a maxim machine gun company and an artillery company with four 122mm howitzers.  I used my regular rifle/mg stands from my mid/late war Soviet army and for a "counts as" I used my buddies four B-4 1931 203mm Howitzers instead of the regular 122mm howitzers.

One of the main rules for the Early War Strelkovy is the second wave rule. on a 4+ a unit with the second wave rule that is removed from play returns to the table as the second wave of the assault. That is right when the 23 stands of infantry is killed and you roll that magic 4+, the entire 23 stands returns to the table. There are a few limitations but that is the gist of the rule.

More pictures from the other armies at the event can be found on my blog at http://mlwodementia.blogspot.com/2013/05/early-war-armies-for-charlotte-flames.html

The Early War period really changes the dynamic of the game and I have already started building more infantry to ramp up the force.

I've liking early war for its focus on infantry. Stayed tuned for the next EW book - tipped to be the Manchurian Campaign, culminating with Khalkin Gol.
