1/56 Gear Krieg walker ShiKi
« on: May 19, 2013, 10:19:33 AM »

GnG by Company B gets again better - 28mm Japanese walkers: Shi Ki

To support the GnG line in 28mm Brent Dietrich of Company B finally released the Japanese Shiki walkers! The Shiki 38 - a basic variant with one turret mounted MG and one rear turret mounted MG, one Teppoyari and Anti-Tank Explosives. The kit comes with both leg variants, walking and ground mode!

Rules to use these walkers in your Victory Decision games can be found in the ViDe: Gear Krieg book.

Personally I like the look of the ground mode Shiki even more!

OK, no offense to you Agis since I love your work. And no offense to DP9 because their stuff is almost all great.  But I just feel these look... dorky.  Dorky enough to be "realistic", admittedly, except the awkward little arms that I can't picture wielding that lance thingy with any effectiveness.  (All the GK walkers have awkward little arms but I figured the arms on walkers would mainly be for cutting wire, moving obstacles etc.)

I agree it looks odd but the lance thingy isn't a traditional lance or spear, where brute force is used to push the device into a body cavity and cause all sorts of internal mayhem. The lance is actually a stick with an explosive device at the end. Make contact and BOOM!

Does that bring the arms back into the "Dorky enough to be realistic" area?

Doesn't for me - because it doesn't look to have the articulation to actually point or deploy the thing.  I think it's an okay little model minus the lance/boomstick which I think is really out of place.

Would it help if the model had the actual joints clearly marked?

 lol that's funny
It appears to me that once You buy the dynamic of a walker balancing tons of steel on two hydraulic legs, thoughts about realism become a bit pointless. The "transformer" concept is pretty well done I think. Not sure if it shouldn't have some stuff tacked to the surface. looks a bit sterile...

Absolutely - I am always amused when the word realistic is applied in a Gear Krieg - The World War II Two-fisted Pulp style wargame - context.
