Now it's Aliens
« on: 30 May 2013, 03:18:36 AM »
Well I have been wanting to get into the Aliens game for some time.
However the Leading edge mini's are not cheap and this project stalled.

Soooo I have been watching ebay for a long time and last week scored big.
Got the queen, eggs and 6 aliens for $38 and then 3 marines for $11 (Good start?)
So now I add aliens to my pile of lead.

Haven't got them as yet but I have been looking at rule systems and terrain materials.
So any info on this and scenarios, game boards, how to make corridors, 28mm miniatures etc. would be appreciated.

No amount of planning will ever replace dumb luck.

Corridors- Fenris Games have a very nice range of Sulaco floor tiles, lasercut sheets of floor grilles and matching bases (some infested), walls are planned as well.

There's been several lasercut scifi corridor sets on kickstarter lately, worth a search.

If you don't have a rule set in mind take a look at Swatters from Ganesha.

For terrain, if you're really into building it yourself there's a guy over on Studio McVey's blog doing video tutorials building 3d versions of the Sedition Wars tiles out of Hirst Arts stuff. I think you can probably find them on youtube as well.

And for alien figures have you looked at the Horrorclix stuff? It's decent scale (around 30mm) but I don't know what kind of money they're going for. I ripped mine off their clix bases long ago, as well as the predators.

Yes these are very nice indeed but I am at this point looking at a small budget.

Wow I didn't even know about kickstarter. Sedition wars looks pretty cool I downloaded the rules and cards and gasped at the mini's. Still looking for those corridor sets however.

Thanks obsidian3d. Swatters looks cool but it is really designed for large scale actions and I am not sure that is what I am looking for.
The Hirst Arts molding systems are very appealing. I might try that as soon as I can afford it.
Yes Horrorclix mini's would work well except I already have leading edge and not sure if they would be compatable.

OK here is what I have so far.
Rules;
Aliens this time it's war (PDF version I downloaded a long time ago) So far this seems to be like what I am looking for.
Frag Bug hunt (PDF version I downloaded a long time ago)
Fubar Generic Sci-Fi (PDF version I downloaded a long time ago)
And now Alabaster-Rulebook-2ndEd that I downloaded (Not sure how this will help but it's cool)

Mini's;
Leading edge Alien Queen and eggs with Facehuggers
6 Leading edge Aliens
3 Leading edge Colonial marines
8 Ral Partha Shadow run figures I can use as civilians

I have been looking at Hasslefree mini's and they will probably fit well.
An APV would be nice.

Terrain; None except plenty to do an earth like planet.
I also have an ample supply of .020 thick x 6" x 4' long sheets of styrene that I can scratch build floor tiles and walls with.
And some .100 thick styrene sheets to work with as well.
I think I can do a pretty good job with this but need reference maps, plans, templates etc.

Again thanks so much for you input and time.
Keep it coming I am still in the fact finding stage and open to your suggestions.

I'll second the recommendation of Manatic's blog. I found loads and loads of ideas for my own Aliens project there. I'm sure there are lots of us who have.

I just recieved my Alien queen and the 6 warriors and they are now on their own shelf along with the 3 marines and 2 colonists, waiting for more deals to show up.

First thanks again,
@ Andrew May. So that is the kickstarter you were talking about. Those corridors really look fantastic.
However I would need a bigger budget than I have a the moment just to get started. Great looking stuff and may come in handy as reference. Can somebody explain how they work the pledge thing?

Next
OK manatic, I will fourth it.
I have already seen your blog and have gotten a lot of great idea's for terrain building from scratch.
This style of making things from nothing suits me to a tee. I get a bang out of creating things I can use for a cheap or reasonable cost or better yet for free. The use of plastic window screen for that steel grating look is brilliant.
I may take that a step further with the styrene sheets I have. I need to try an experiment before I elaborate on that.
I have a box of stuff that I have collected over the years for just this purpose. That may come in handy as well.

Anyways I am glad you both included those links to this thread. I will be visiting them both a lot.
Keep them coming this is getting good.

Well, as the campaign is over regular pledging is out. However, if you try to get in touch with them they may be prepared to accept an "order" outside of KS.
Sorry I can't help more!

I just got 8 more Leading edge marines and won an auction for 6 more aliens. Plenty to get stated now.
I would like to re-base them but I 'm not sure that is a good Idea?
Oh and I painted up the Queen but need to get some good pics.
