Ignatieff's Skunk!
« on: 29 April 2008, 05:57:27 PM »
Finished it!  Marvellous wee model Brent, painted like a dream.  Two vickers from the merchant navy crew as well.  Of course you all spotted the 1960's Spanish desert camouflage, as featured in that anorak's bible 'Brassey's Book of Camouflage'.

Pic taken in the back garden this afternoon in between rain storms.  Figs, as always by Steve Dean, Chinese temple by Gary Chalk after a photograph I found from one similar in 1926.

The madness is growing once again.......

Well, I knew that it is difficult to find a good parking space in China, what with the Olympics coming up, but that is ridiculous!

;)

Very nice. The camouflage is intriguing, the sand/light blue combination works very well. I´d suggest some very light washes for those rivets, though. Just to add a little more contrast - it looks a bit too shoeboxish right now.

Just using the a fine brush (I use 1s and 2s for that type of task) and paint a thin darkish-brown wash onto every rivet and into the joints between the armour plates.

Here´s a UNL-35 of mine, to show what I´m talking about:

Marvellous - many thanks.  Your rivets look lighter to me in the photo, but I get your point.  Super armoured car, and cracking paint job - well done! Was that a SCW specific model or did it rear itrs armoured head before then?

Thanks again

That's excellent!

Could that AC be used for late WW2 British, do you think? I was looking for something just like that recently for my late 40s Torchwood project.

nice!  Yes, and very interesting parking.  He must be a very good driver!
rivets, try the thin wash, and just dab each rivet.  Thinner is better, as you can do it again when it's dry to darken the effect.

Sorry i put so many rivets on it!

Rivets are the new black. Apparently they're very "steampunk" which is what the digerati kids at work are all about these days.

Who's that chap in the courtyard (looks like Dougie Turner going to an Adam & the Ants concert) ?
Gary, Glynis, and Alasdair (there are three of us, but we are too mean to have more than one login)

It´s all about getting a rather subtle job, or it´ll look all 40k, and we don´t want that. It´s just about defining the rivets a bit with some slight shading.

On the model, the UNL-35 was built by Republican factories under supervision of Soviet and soviet-trained engineers. So, it was a "period-specific" vehicle, but was used by both sides during the war. I painted it as part of my Nationalists since my Republican T-26 outweighed all Nationalist vehicles I had done until then... X-D This specific model is from Anglian Miniatures (produced by Chieftain since they have a very productive co-operation agreement, AFAIK). Lovely kit with absolutely minuscule flash. You might wish to check on Chieftain´s Interwar vehicles if you haven´t yet done so. Their Crossley Armoured Car is just plain awesome.

Ah, a telling quote from the scorcerer of Scarborough. Trust me, Dougie Turner never looked liked that good!  Think Bridgit Neilsen in a hussar's outfit!  A one off figure (though I think 6 were cast in the end).
