A few Doctor Who minis (Couple of new pics 18th June)

No sooner do I finish painting the 11th Doc, he leaves the show!  

Here's a few Who minis I have recently finished.

Here is the 4th Doc and Co - I have no idea who made the figure, I've had it for years.  Not really the best representation of Tom Baker, he's a little short for starters, and I think he looks more like the 8th Doc (McGann).  I painted the Crooked Dice Casual May to represent Romana II (with a little artistic license) as I had just finished an Amy Pond figure and had no use for 2.  Leela is a converted Copplestone Cave Woman (Green stuff to cover her modesty, make her boots, add knife and pouch).  Her base was inspired by a pic I saw here (I think), wish I could give credit.  K-9 Mk II is a Microuniverse figure, repainted a while back.



From the rear - I'm probably going to make another 4th Doc, I've never seen a figure that quite does it for me.



11th Doc and Amy Pond - I love these figures, though I found some of the detail hard to pick out.  Looks like I need to touch up Amy's eyes (again).

The Tom Baker Doctor is a Fine Art Castings Miniature, and were (as far as I am aware) the first licensed Doctor Who miniatures - they were meant for the collectors market - and not for gaming.

They were first announced in The Doctor Who Magazine in 1984 - and were produced in three different size ranges, 25mm, 40mm, and 80mm, along with some busts and a Tardis model.

Ah! Thanks - That's great info.  Make me wonder if the 40mm figure would be almost the correct scale to fit with today's minis?  Probably hard to track down.

S'ok - I've got a couple (somewhere LoL) as I remember they are big even for 40mm scale!

How thin are Romana/May's legs though?    I'd be scared to paint her!

Nice work but yeah, Amy seems to have "Innsmouth eyes"...  her hair is great though, the colour is nicely subdued.

Agreed.  Leela was one of the best companions IMO but she was pretty slender for a hunter-gatherer.  This one's got a bit of brawn which is neat.  I like the smashed Dalek on her base too, I've used that theme for DW basing in the past myself

I also thought Leela was among the best companions, and I wish they'd taken her character a little further... It would also be great if they got away from contemporary Earth companions in the current series, and have one or two eccentric aliens? 

The figure I used is a little chunkier than some of my other Who minis, but I rationalize it in the same way as No Such Agency

I made the Dalek piece by making a press mold with some of that Instant Mold (just add boiling water!) - so no Daleks were harmed in the making of the base (You'll be sad/glad to hear)

Very Cool! The conversion on Leela is awesome! The Doctor's scarf looks fantastic too. I see what you mean about his stature, but the other details on that figure are well-done. Is he reaching in his coat for some jelly babies?

The fourth Doctor was "my" Doctor. I was a wee lass and I used to watch with my dad. Usually from the couch, but occasionally from behind it.

I liked Leela's independence. Not quite as much as Sarah Jane, but she was still a companion who could take care of herself.

Yep, that's exactly what I did.  Saved $4 and didn't have to mangle my fingers sawing through 1/2" of pewter.

I managed to get a few baddies finished last night.  The Scray Statues from Crooked Dice took longer to put together than paint - just a few quick layers of drybrushing, getting successively brighter.  They're great models.  I've got another four awaiting the drying of greenstuff.

The Daleks are from Doctor Who Magazine from a couple of years back, the yellow one has been done for ages, but the others have been hanging around the painting table for ages...  Just as I finished painting the last bump, I saw this post.

I'll be trying that technique on the next batch!  I'm never sure how to base Daleks (as you can tell by their bare bases) - I did all my other with sand, so maybe more of the same for these?  Just seems that a sandy/gravel surface would completely cripple them    I should probably also dab a highlight on each bump :/

Agreed.  I considered leaving them off all of my Daleks, but as they're all plastic (from DWM or Microuniverse figs) they benefit greatly from the bit of heft a coin gives them.
