I've been rather busy of late painting figures for the Burma 1945 game we put on at Partizan.

But as soon as that was over last Sunday I set to and started painting my box of Desert Rats as troops from the 5th Indian Infantry Division for our upcoming Eritrea Campaign games.

The first 19 are completed.

They had their first crack at the Italians on Thursday, I'll get a report up later.

I've updated the Scrivsland blog with more pictures along with the painting recipe.

It's been a while since I added to this project, but I've updated the blog with the latest few figures painted and the bases done on the 2" Mortar and BREN teams.

As usual, more images and a painting guide on the Scrivsland blog.

Yes James, I have retrospectively been applying facial hair :)

I've managed to finish off painting the last nine figures of the first box of Perry Miniatures Desert Rats I purchased at Salute.

This makes up the full platoon of 38 men:

There is a full description and more images on this Scrivsland blog article

I also painted the Universal Carrier I purchased at the same time:

Lovely model done by Perrys in conjunction with BlitzKreig.

I've done another Scrivland blog article for with more images and description Scrivland blog article for with more images and description

Instantly more macho!  Nice work.

The carrier is a beaut, I must get mine done crewed by Sikhs.  Looking forward to some Matildas.

Right, that's it.  I've been looking at these since Salute and now you've pushed me over the edge.  I ordered a box of infantry and three carriers this morning for Chain of Command.

I see the Afrika Korps box set will be out next month as well.

I'd love to see some armoured cars for the desert.  I can see some cracking games with recce forces around an Oasis.

Rich

Thanks chaps.

I've already got another box of Desert Rats primed and ready to start painting and I'll speak to Mr BlitzKreig regarding some armour and await the Perrys to release the DAK.

Great work. I'm also interested in the IEA Campaign and was considering doing it in 20mm but the new 28mm ranges are too tempting. More difficult is finding suitable vehicles like the Italian M11/39 tank and the Autoblinda Fiat 611.

Rather splendid. Wargaming Africa sounds great but is it not all big open spaces/attrition battles? I must confess it is a theatre I know little about (for shame).

Many parts of the East African campaign were fought in hills and mountains (Google Battle of Keren 1941 to get an idea), consequently the fighting involved the infantry a great deal more - and there were plenty of smaller actions, good for wargaming in 20/28mm.

Thanks chaps.

It's been slow progress these last couple of weeks, but I've added another two rifle sections to the force.

As usual, more images etc. on the Scrivsland Blog

Dunno about the Fiat 611 though : I can't think of any manufacturer doing one at the mo'.

Arthur,

Thinking specifically for WWII in North Africa, how do the Company B AFV's match up with the Perry/Blitzkrieg range?

Darrell.
