100 Years War English w.i.p
« on: June 10, 2013, 10:40:36 PM »
I'm currently painting an English army for the early 100 Years War including some English Knight from Front Rank. These are great figures and a real joy to paint. I've still got to add flags and texture the bases and any suggestions regarding texture would be appreciated.

Next is the man himself, Edward of Woodstock, the Black Prince

He'll be on a 50mm x 100mm base with some retainers on foot. I'll post some more pics as I progress.
Cheers, Dave

Lovely work!  :-*

As for texture I use different sand, fine and coarse or if not only sand, then different pastes and sand mixtures.

Welcome to the forum btw.

Please tell me those are transfers on the coats of arms.  If they are freehand I might just go and jump in a river....

I've got a feeling they are free hand  8) 8)

Great painting but possibly will look better under a whiter light for photography  :)

Hello Dave,
Welcome to the Medieval Adventurers Boards - really great to see your wonderful work.
Am sure all the heraldry is freehand - your 'signwriters style' is tremendous and works really well on these FR figures (as with your  flags).

Please keep posting these - personally I'm not fussed whether you  post pics of your Swiss on this board or the Renaissance one!! Please feel free to choose... :)

Cheers,  Simon.

Thanks for the encouragement guys. The heraldry is freehand but I'd love someone to produce a comprehensive set of heraldry transfers, sheets of lions and crosses in different colours and styles would be great. I know there are some out there but the ones I've seen look a bit fantasy (too many dragons and unicorns etc) I enjoy painting heraldry but it can take ages!

I've got a lot of medieval armies on the go so I've decided to pick one and finish it. After the English army I'd like to finish my Swiss (lots of flags to paint!)

Absolutely stunning!  :o The armor alone is great! To see all the care that goes into that kind of freehand detailing is very inspiring.

I'm sure they'll look fantastic with their bases done up.

Great work and welcome to the forum. Good to have new talent onboard. I'm with painterman, so long as you keep posting, post in either. We managed to hold onto Stuart's Tudor thread in the Medieval camp! Cheers.
