Star wars: x-wing- project death star trench run
« on: 19 June 2013, 08:35:53 PM »
I've started a death star surface to play star wars: x-wing

For the matérial:

base: styrodur
death star relief: dépron 5mm and 1/4 inch flat hirst art pieces
trench: hirst art science fi pieces, hirst art pipe, stryrodur, dépron... everything i find
Turrets:
body: dépron
head: stryrodur
barrel: bamboo stick with a square of dépron.

The rules to play the trench run ("death star trench run singapore" that can be uploaded in BGG), give a special movement in the trench; you do not need the template, all the fighters move on slots, and it overules the normal movement.

If you look at the picture, you can see the slots (3 in a raw, near the turret, each realized by a square. A square is exactly the ship's base size. Then, i can overload the rest of the trench (floor and walls).

Ive made a small vidéo, just for fun

At the start, on the left corner, you can see an aérograph paint test.

I will show you the progress.

Looks fantastic. How are you planning to deal with the two-dimensional aspect of the game? With that trench there it looks like it would be awesome to have the third dimension play a role in maneuverability...

Thanks

That looks amazing!
I've been toying with the 3D terrain idea myself, mainly thinking hills and cliffs of Tatooine and other planet surfaces to simulate the excellent PC game "Rogue Squadron" from back in the days, but the 2D rules make it very difficult.

Thanks  :)
Ive made the map in relation to the spécial rules "death star trench run singapore" on BGG.
As i say previously, normal movement rules are played on the surface (you use a plexiglass plate to fly above the trench).
When you're above, you select a blank on the dial, and so you get down in the trench.
Thereafter, movement are on slot toward the port exhaust; any template are used.

For an other way (not the death star attack), i've been thinking about using the height rules of the dogfight book "Check your 6".
From now on, it is no more current events  ::)

Agreed 2D poses no real issue.  We have plans for a three level game at some stage, the rules also easily allow for ground based action as well as atmospheric and orbital combat.

Cool stuff, I just wonder how well the game rules really adapt to that particular scenario. Great looking start!

The ruleset is an updated version of the old Wings of War rules with bits of Aeronautica thrown in....
Works well and does adapt to all sorts of things... even ground warfare.... seems odd to say, but works surprisingly well for tank battles! ( when i say tank, I actually mean AT-AT's... )
