Prussians!
« on: 20 June 2013, 08:35:05 PM »
In preparation for a large game of Black Powder this summer, I have been painting up a prussian force. It consists mainly of landwehr infantry with two complete companies of 36 odels as well as a small company to act as skirmishers, with a unit of cuirassiers and a haubitser for support. We have decided to "zoom in" on the action and have each unit represent a company of men rather than a battalion. Because of this the units do´t have their own banners.

The miniatures are from Perry, Warlord and Foundry, the banners are from GMB

Each infantry model is mounted on a circular 19mm metal base, which are then placed on a 40x60mm magnetic base to allow both large scale battles as well as small skirmishes.

I am currently waiting for a third company of landwehr to arrive in the mail to complete my first battalion.

Sadly, the plastic landwehr are not great. I bought one box to start this project and it nearly made me quit altoghether. I have replaced all but 8 of them with various metal miniatures.

Ironically, while their plastic is the worst, warlords metal miniatures are the best. Too bad they have so few variants. Perry miniatures are slightly smaller than foundry and warlord, but still look ok (some people are just shorter than others). Foundry has the simplest designs, but also the best casts of them. Several perry and warlord models have been quire poorly cast.

Surprised to hear that about the perry minis, although I've had some which were slightly toasted in the mould there was no mould slip or mis-casting. Maybe it's worth dropping them a line to tell them of your problem?

I've not seen the warlord figs, but I have some of their Poles. I will paint them but you're right, the detail isn't as crisp as other companies plastics.

Keep up the good work.

Lovely work, what rules do you plan to use for your skirmishers? We had have some great games of Black Powder of late.
