Okay then, the Murmillo has them where he should not while the Hoplomachus does not where he should.
Paul, no offense meant please, they are gorgeous figures, and I expect I will end up buying them.

Considering how little we know about gladiators and the span of what...300 years that they fought, I'm sure there was a lot of variation.  lol  These are still loads better than the Black Tree Design ones which seem predominantly based on movies and comic books.  :D

I had read that the Hoplomachus in a couple of sources also wore trews very much like those worn by Northern Europeans and that is what I went for. Also I had found sources I admit secondary that show the Murmillo wearing the padding on the legs.

No offense taken just very proud of the figures.

I think you have them correct, according to the sources I know. The fascia on the off-leg for the Murmillo might get some boos, but is quite possible.

How will these match in size and heft with the Crusader Gladiators?

They lack the gigantic helmets from the Crusader, from the looks of them! ::)

Am I the only one bothered by that from the Crusader line? I've seen some nice paintjobs, but those helmets!

Don't like them, too. Sure, these helmets were quite large but some of Crusader ones are almost shoulder wide. But who cares, it's only matter of taste.

Yes, I've been put off by Crusader's line of gladiators - though some paintjobs on this very forum almost changed my mind.

Funny, up until the release of the new Paul Hicks figures, I was under the impression that the Crusader models were regarded as the best out there.  I actually just repurchased painted ones I had sold.

I like "some" of the Foundry ones, though their huge line is done by a half dozen or more sculptors.  Several of the sets are quite excellent.  I do think the Hicks ones look the best (and if the line ends up being fairly comprehensive I'd happily stick to them).

For the time being I'll paint up my handful of Foundry ones so I have something to game with.

I like the looks of these quite a bit. I have all the Crusader ones, I even have a couple primed ;)

If i could have got hold of the Hicks sculps at the time i would have. Otherwise, i'm very pleased with the Crusader figures i bought.

I don't need/want more than half a dozen figures and the Crusaders figures do the job very well IMO

My thoughts exactly. There is no doubt Mr. Hicks' gladiators are looking LOVELY, but I'm not about to abandon my Crusader gladiators.

There is more than enough room for a few manufacturers of gladiators, considering these are single figures and not armies, but I'd imagine the companies do not make a packet out of these lines.

So please lets support them and buy them ALL. You can never have too many gladiators.  ;)
