« on: July 10, 2013, 06:13:51 PM »
Hi chaps

does anyone know how HEAVY GEAR BLITZ mechs measure up to 28mm. I was thinking of using them in one of my projects as Japaneses war robot's.

all the best James.

I use some with my 15mm stuff, but best pics for this are on Duchess Camilla's Horse blog - linky here: http://duchesscamillashorse.servegame.org/

Here's a pic showing some Old Crow MBTs, APC, scout vehicle and 15mm troops being accompanied by some Heavy Gear units. Probably in 28mm would be more akin to slightly larger than human mechs.
Have fun storming the castle! ...and that really isn't me you know...

Gothic Project: leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=55943.0 - although on pause atm as too much RL stuff getting in the way.

I recall heavy gear switching scales somewhere in the distant past. Are those the larger old scale or the newer ones that are officially 12mm?

Good point - mine are the newer ones which are a touch smaller at around 35-38mm tall. The ones in the picture do seem a bit larger than that.

Many moons ago the Heavy Gears were made by RAFM and were 1:87 IIRC.  They were much bigger back then.  Every once and awhile they turn up on ebay.

I can't recall any extant comparison shots on teh InterWebz: there were some back in the olden days but I do believe they were taken down at some point.

I don't have any fully assembled HG gears on hand but a gaming buddy has used some of their feet on Tau battlesuits to replace the orginal "tippy toes" so they aren't exactly tiny. Also, their weapons would seem to fit 28mm scale human infantry minis fairly well IIRC (the same guy is going to retrofit some of gear guns on Infinity remotes. I seem to recall the pre-Blitz ones looked a little small compared to the common "heroic scale" guns but the Blitz era weapons fit the general consensus that a scifi gun must be twice the size of a real world gun :P

Plenty of other pics out there.
As for using them as robots, sure. Robots are all different sizes and shapes.
To use them as battlesuits, nah. Not for 28mm i dont see it working no matter if you get the current Heavy Gear line or the previous RAFM made Gears.

edit* looks like Grimnar beat me to it. I'd guess we both remembered seeing scale pics and googled it :P

They're pretty close to a standard 28mm fig. I'd say they'd work pretty good as robots :)

and the older RAFM scale

Yea I was pondering adding a few of them to my 15mm gruntz project. Actually I like the entirety of HG but I really shouldn't get into another game nobody here plays. Those pictures show me they work better with 15mm then I previously thought so I guess I can pick a few up without doubts now.  lol
On a side note HG also has a few larger models, called striders. How I would love to have a mamoth to ad to my forces.

I can see myself trawling ebay for some of the 1/87th scale ones they look excellent for 15mm......

Edit:  :-[ DOH!!!  :? Ok now I know senility is setting in - I have 4 or 5 at the larger scale painted up as support mechs for my evil villains in the Champions RPG universe. Where are my pills? lol

Well, it's to be expected when you call yourself "muncehead".
It wasn't exactly a term of endearment for the overly bright in the big meg, after all.

But the rad-fleas don't half itch..... I can't help it if my megablock is so near the Radlands, this is where the Judges told me to live after they found my stash of Synthi-caff. Want some? (Just don't nark on me)
