New Tripod Fighting Machine
« on: July 16, 2013, 08:14:20 AM »
Just finished my latest project (well more a quickie on the side  :D )

Homemade Tripod Fighting Machine

Couple of scenes (actually made two in the end)

And it even lights up

Full details of how I made it on my website here

99p for the camera tripod, £1.25 for the light, £1 for two cables I only used one per tripod so 50p

99+1.25+50 = £2.74  :)

That is an awesome example of creative scratch building! The result is wonderful and very evocative of the 60ties War of the Worlds movie (well, the shape of the head at least ;) ).

Should they have had the budget for it, those Martian attackers would probably have looked like yours (the special effects budget was too small to have the martian vehicles on tripods, so they made them hover instead, which was a lot less expensive, effectswise).

I especially like the fact that you saw through the shapes of the individual components and visualised the end result in your head before the build. And then the fact you did not even use any model or miniature parts; it really is an all scratchbuild.

Hat off to you sir (were I wearing one); very inspirational indeed... 8)
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Fantastic! There's a couple of ideas I will be borrowing there to do my own tripods... ;)

That's just wonderful.  :-* The fact that they still light up is just the cherry on a rather delightful cake.

That was a bonus of the reading light I ended up using. Quite a few of the alternatives had the batteries in the body with a wire going up the neck to the head. Not sure I'd have been able to rewire those.

So if you want you're tripod to light up that's something to check.

Hmmm looking again maybe I should have done the light red ...

You're spot on with that. I really struggled to come up with a paint scheme. Was going to leave it plain metal but had the green tint idea at the last minute. Using this same technique you could easily produce the saucer version from the 1960's version  8)

Hmmm I might have just the thing to do that. Ahhhh what have you started  ;D
