In "Rivals of the raj" by Peter Abbott (Foundry), he mentions that the  locals in the Marianas, Carolinas and Guam were "never reconciled to Spanish control" , and the Spanish had to  send out a number of small expeditions especially  as a few garrisons were  "put to the sword" in 1887 and 1890.

No details given about these expeditions.

 John.

Just finished reading "Rebellion in der Sudsee" der aufstand auf Ponape gegen die deutschen  Kolonialherren 1910/11.,by Thomas Morlang.Good read on something I was very vague. The germans put close to 550 troops in the field about 1/3rd local polizei troops from all th islands.52 asst'd heavy weapons,maxims,37 mm schnellfeuer kanone,etc..... It seems the local polizei were not to keen to leave cover, and left the last push to the sailors. The natives were usually on fortified, hilltops in dense jungle.Usually retreating after firing awhile then falling back before the exhausted ,cursing sailors. It seems the natives wre armed with a variety of firearms and native weaponry, old remington rifles from the spanish were common. the heavy weaponry from  the  ships and sailors had a telling effect. However there were cases of friendly fire on german officers with polizei truppen in canoes being fired upon by ther own ships, even after many friendly  waves.I am not quite sure what the ships thought the threat would be.I am now stating to read von Peckesheim memoirs of the campaign, this will take a little longer as it is is Gothic script...I'll keep you posted.
