Still have a couple of command figures to paint up. Then I will post a piture of the whole group. Currently working on some more troops for the Madi. Planning a French in the southwest Sudan VS the Madi for Drumbeat next month.

Sheet, this is a great thread, what figures are you using and what sources are you using for painting - I,ve got Detailles  Armee Francaisse and have always thought the Perry,s A.c.w. zouaves would make for great native levies although the button counters amongst us might have some objections . Anyways more pore to your elbow young man !

Yes the French used quite a few african sailors. Espescially in north & west Africa. Mostly on gunboats. Some of them ended up serving in Tonkin too.

@ Belisarius Most of my figures are Riveresco plus a few Copplestone & Foundry officers. The Algerians are Perry plastic ACW Zouaves. I uses painting guides I found online & from manufacturers plus book & other materials I have around the house.
