Just what is the color of your VSF Mars earth
« on: 05 August 2013, 11:23:47 PM »
I have gotten to the point were I need to make a decision. As you can see I have neglected to paint this poor martian's ground. I can't make up my mind.

So....
What color is your mars?
Is it reddish, is it yellowish or what?

Thanks in advance for the input.

I don't have any pics but I basecoat mine with GW bleached bone, wash it with their Ogryn Flesh and then re-drybrush it with bleached bone. Looks pretty good.

I stick to Venus so I can't help you but I would suggest red where rocky and yellow where sandy.

Gracias,

Glenn

I start with a deep chocolate brown, and highlight heavily with burnt sienna leading up to terra cotta with white in it.

I lean more toward a terra cotta/red-brown.

This...

Which is normal fine builders sand washed with a 50/50 mix of Windsor and Newton sepia ink and water then drybrushed up through Foundrys Ochre triad  :)

Goes for figure bases as well.

cheers

I think Jimbibbly has it about right - apparently Martian soil is a butterscotch colour according to NASA. Assuming you're going for a realistic colour (although nobody has ever seen Martian soil in the flesh  :D).

@ Everyone
Thanks for all the input gentlemen!
Feel free to post any pictures you may have of your color schemes.

@ Jimbibbly
As usual... a very nice board Mr. Jimbibbly!
I've been following your stuff for a while now and I am jealous to say the least. I made a martian terrain mat a few years ago and I think I might have gone a bit too red. (I'll try to dig up a photo so I can get more feedback)

One thing that probably works quite well for you is that this colour scheme on your figure bases could also be a nice match for desert terrain as well.

I use an old Dulux colour called Ancient Earth. They will still make it up for you. It is a very dark red.
