IHMN question: vehicle design rules?
« on: August 16, 2013, 01:26:19 PM »
I'm a way into reading the IHMN rulebook now, and so far I'm absolutely thrilled!
I especially like the fact that, if you want, you can just build/stat everything for yourself.
I'm a little disappointed there aren't any guidelines for statting out/costing (non-standard) vehicles one might build, though.
Will these be added to the rules at some point (for example via the blog, or in a future expansion)?
I'd very much like to build some stuff you see...

I can't speak for future publications, although Craig might if he is able to break away from work for a bit, but I have talked to him about this before.

Combat vehicles such as Steamtanks etc are a bit out of the scope of this rules set although they make great objectives. This game is aimed at small companies of troops fighting an almost clandestine war (hence the rule about automatically losing if you kill too many civilians). The main problem as I see it is armoured vehicles would either be too powerful or too weak in these rules. I'm sure someone will work out a decent mod at some point though :)
So many projects..... so little time.......

I agree on the armoured vehicles (although i'd still like to see them), but i think there's a lot of scope for all manner of 'civilian' vehicles and other perambulators and such contraptions.

There are a bunch more civilian vehicles in the next book but I'm sure Craig and Charles will reveal their formula at some point. What I'd like to see is points/advice in creating weird tech.

I wasn't immediately thinking about starting up an armoured brigade, guys... ;) (I do have a Ramshackle Spider tank though.  :o)
My thoughts were going towards, for example, a scenario where one, or more, companies need to face a single heavy machine on a rampage. That would be nice.
And indeed more civillian and construction vehicles, as Luddite states.
Plus it would be an aid to people who want to adapt the rules to another/own setting.

I have to agree on your request for the weird tech advice/guide as well.

Have a feeling this thread might brew up something interesting....

Share our most secret formula? Never I tell you, never!!  lol

You'll have to wait until I ask Charles how we did it, because I can't for the life of me remember. I think it involved examining the entrails of a chicken at some point...

Thank you!  Both for your quick response and for authoring such an excellent book.
Oh, I don't mind waiting a bit, I still have to finish reading (just got to the scenario section last night) and maybe get a few games in before I start tinkering in earnest.
