New Bridge design from Sarissa.
« on: 23 August 2013, 12:20:46 PM »
Just thought I would share a new Bridge Design from Sarissa.

Roof comes off, and the whole cover unit comes off too.  Theres more buildings in the pipeline.  I just enjoyed painting this 1

Nice paint job. Not sure about the model though. Seems too square imho, one of the downsides of some of the laser cut bits.

The problem was getting a simple size to represent the bridge on the table...  I would have loved to do a full on version...  like the Pegasus Bridge at Warlord...

My painting commission clients keep telling me they have piles of unpainted lead and no time to get to it, and little time to game if they did,  so the aim is often to design something that takes little time to get ready and can get on a tabel for gaming.

All in all, it is nice. The box like is very southern in design.

While a nice piece, I don't really recognize the design as anything I've seen.  Perhaps more VSF or something than Old West?

Definitely not western, reminds of covered bridges in the Northeast US.

The additional superstructure helps protect the wood from rotting so the bridge will last longer. Particularly necessary in the Northeast United States

the bridge is nice, PJ and build and all
it is too short though and thus looks a bit strange...

Thanks, makes sense, was the idea behind those bridges European?

no, in Europe bridges were built in stone where possible, so no need for a cover
they also had a fiscal context, so had to be "set in stone"

Even when designing it my thought was, why cover a bridge.

Thanks for clearing that 1 up.

Your right it is shorter than reality, but its an objective to game over...  But I wouldn't say the scale of most figures is 'real'

Stylistically based on the Sachs Covered Bridge.  Loosely....  very loosely.

wargaming scale compression doesn't work always

I'd advise to design some connection device, so that people can combine segments

I think, in this case, I would have preferred the bracing/latice work to be laser cut as separate "sections" (one per top and bottom on each side)...attaching them with simple glue.  It would have given the model a tiny bit more 3D appearance.  It also would have only involved a tiny bit more laser work.  I have no need for this type of bridge so my comments are borderline...useless. :D
