Rakshasa?
« on: August 25, 2013, 12:32:13 PM »
For the past few months I have been looking for the elusive Rakshasa. I am aware of the pre-painted D&D minis and have see various were-tigers and the like, but I have yet to find any true Rakshasa. I relented and purchased a female were-tiger from Reaper, with a little green stuff I hope she will pass as Rakshasa. I would like to add at least a couple more figures, I have been using Red Box Games minis as well as some Reaper minis for my D&D games and would like the minis to be as close to 28mm as possible. I am currently looking through the Ral-Partha line as well, and have had some success, just no true Rakshasa. If you happen to know a good place to find these minis I would be grateful.

Some of the 'old' Alkemy Khaliman minis maybe? I'm not sure what size they are though.
Now available here: http://hobbyshop.fr/9-khaliman

Possibly something of use here: http://cart.blackorc.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=70&zenid=d896912802404d0406d189a9b079768c

Are you only looking for tigers or other animal forms as well?
Did Reaper Pathfinder produce any? Since they have been producing miniatures for the Pathfinders rpg supplements and in "Curse of the Crimson Throne" Rakshasas do play an important role I was wondering...

The Alkemy ones are a bit on the smaller side of heroic scale, but cats are associated with being slender and graceful, are they not? These are absolutely perfect miniatures IMHO(...and full of motion, just as cats are...!) and if you rummage around the internet for a bit, you could find them for very little money indeed.

How about this guy from Ral Partha? http://www.ralparthaeurope.co.uk/shop/01003-weretiger-p-1203.html

Yeah, that Ral Partha one, a Meier piece, is definitely intended to be a rakshasa. I have it and it's not bad, it definitely does the trick but doesn't do a whole lot for me beyond that.

The Ral Partha AD&D one has some charm, though he reminds me more of an Arabian puss'n'boots than a powerful evil spirit:

TSR one is a bit poor and typical of their line:

http://www.miniatures-workshop.com/lostminiswiki/index.php?title=AD%26D_Blister_Packs_%28TSR%29#5612

Grenadier made their first ones as a lizard, and an elephant not a tiger:

http://www.miniatures-workshop.com/lostminiswiki/index.php?title=AD%26D_-_Blister_Packs#101_Rakshasa

Incidentally, if you go my the first monster manual or the real world myth there's nothing to indicate they have to be a tiger. They have illusion magic and the one in the Trampier illustration just happened to be chilling in a tiger guise with smoking jacket.

If you do want a tiger, though, Grenadier's second one might suit you. I think it's pretty good and wouldn't mind having one myself:

Another idea is to get any robed Reaper figure and put a tiger head on it.

I've got this and it's not a bad figure. It's not intended to be human size and it will tower over your Red Box figures.

Some Wargods of Aegyptus Basti might make a reasonable basis for conversion (more cat-like than tiger-like, though...).
