I know what you're saying...but to me there is a huge difference between a ground-breaking video game, and a decent, interesting IP.  The same could be said of HALO...a ground breaking video game, but one of the most blase, copy-cat, useless, non-atmospheric IP's ever devised in the history of gaming.

totally agree with you about Halo, cannot see why there is so much fuss over it's fluff. I recall back in 95/96 when it was originally slated for a Mac only release before Microsoft stepped in. Imagine if it had stayed like that  lol

Totally disagree, but then I'm sure you'd expect that.  ;)

Anyway my own gaming history is so linked to Doom. I remember crashing the biological sciences building's server in 1992 after uploading knee deep in the dead and having a four player game while the msc students tutted! Lol. Bloody undergrad gamer! ;)

That's quite impressive because in 1992 there was only Wolfenstein, some design docs for Doom, and Carmack working on a new engine. Shareware Doom was first uploaded on public FTPs on December 10, 1993.

Anyway, the new minis set seems to be sold out. No word of whether they'll make more or do we have wait another 17 years for the next batch...

Doom was definitely awesome but its wolfenstein 3d that got me hooked on FPS, predating even doom. Anyone else remember the game?

Yes, Wolfenstein was cool too, but I didn't find it until after doom.

I'm really wanting to give doom a go again now. Never really gave Doom 3 a good go. Must see how that one is.

I downloaded all of the original Doom/Doom 2 from ID last year and it plays as well as I remember. Plus once you've completed everything you've got nearly infinite WAD levels online for free. :D
