Well I enjoyed it. Being a Brummie myself (though no longer residing there), it was nice to see Birmingham presented in a slightly different light (I mean in terms of a drama several tiers above Crossroads!). I never thought the canals could look so atmospheric  lol.

I have played VBCW, and enjoyed the games but avoided the bug to purchase a faction. Though always quite liked the idea of a workers militia from Birmingham. So who knows now?

I'll be interested to find out my Dad's opinion on the show since he hails from Small Heath, though born there about 20yrs after the setting in the drama.

I have to say that i enjoyed it, in a Ripper Street kind of way. You could pick holes in it if you want to but on the whole i thought it quite enjoyable.

Who would have thought that 1920s Britain would be such a den of iniquity  ;)

I thought the Sam Neil "yous" East Belfast accent was passable. I have a lot of NI mates and suspect that they'd have p*ssed themselves laughing though.

I can see my Pulp Alley themes developing a PB slant
"Ho, ho, ho! Well, if it isn't fat stinking billy goat Billy Boy in poison! How art thou, thou globby bottle of cheap, stinking chip oil? Come and get one in the yarbles, if ya have any yarbles, you eunuch jelly thou!"

Oh yes, looks like a great setting for Pulp Alley. Coincidently, we started working on a new expansion called VICE ALLEY a few weeks ago and it’s perfect for this sort of campaign.

It sounds interesting...

Being from the West Midlands myself, I wonder if there will be subtitles in English.  lol

Apparently 10% of the overseas and DVD release sales goes towards a search for a cure for adenoid sufferers.  :D

Yup, that was a cracking series. My early misgivings about the style of direction and modern soundtrack have well and truly been blasted away in a hail of lewis gun fire!
I hope they commission series 2  :)

That was one thing that really grew on me, and I have to say the choice of tracks was great. I'm even thinking about seeing if they made a CD, or perhaps I'll just Itunes the theme, that clinking sound....

I'm hoping the LG will be there next time. And that it stays BBC2 and doesn't try to go BBC1 primetime!

I think the best thing about the show was that is made the very unlikely, very belivable...

Yes in the end I prefer it to Ripper Street, perhaps juust due to the actors/characters... the two BIG DOGS were well cast

I really enjoyed it. Great show, and much better than 99% of the dross on TV.

Good news is, according to an interview with the writer/creator/director, a second season is already in development – set in 1922, it continues the story of Tommy Shelby and his gang:

You mentioned the second series, that’s all been confirmed then?
Yeah, I mean as far as the BBC ever do, but yeah, we’re pretty safe. I’ve started writing it and it’ll start in 1922 and take us through that year and see Tommy make his next steps.

How far do you see the series running? You’re a busy man, but what’s your long-term aim?
My hope would be to go to the Second World War, that’s long-term. Three series would be great.  But I just want to see Tommy become this huge, respectable businessman and see if he can ever escape. Because it’s also about, if you’re born in that environment, can you get out, ever? Can you actually ever escape? And we’ll see. In terms of social class, can he ever be accepted? Obviously racing is one of those places where you’ll see the aristocracy, will he ever be able to break into that world? You have to look at history, it’s very difficult.

For series two and onwards then, is your cast locked down?
Yeah. All the main players are down for it and really enthusiastic and Sam is like, tweeting all over the place in New Zealand about how he can’t wait. Without giving too much away, there’s going to be two new villains in the second series, we’re going to have some good names, good actors to play those.

And you already have those actors in mind?
In my mind.

But not yet on paper?
Yeah, getting there. Getting there.

Anyone you’ve worked with before?
I don’t know yet, we’ll find out. I’d like to work with Tom Hardy again [Knight recently directed Hardy in Locke], he’s fantastic.

I have to ask. Could there be a part for Jason Statham in Peaky Blinders?
We wanted him in the first series.

As which character?
I can’t say, but it was difficult because obviously he’s so committed elsewhere. I’d love him to be in the second series, he’s such a great, great guy.

And a potential for the second series?
Yeah, if he’s not busy.

Interesting about Statham. He's a Derby lad, so that's not too far away, but I'm not sure who he could have played – Billy Kimber or Arthur Shelby Jr., perhaps?
