Peaky Blinders Wargaming
« on: March 27, 2016, 02:25:09 PM »
I'm thinking about adding a Peaky Blinders project to the ever growing list of half finished projects and was wondering if anyone else has tried it and if so what miniatures, terrain and rules people would advise, more generally any gangster of interwar skirmish rules that people would recommend would be fantastic
Thanks for any help

What a weird coincidence. Our national broadcaster just started showing PB this spring, and I've literally been watching a couple of episodes over the last few days. Sometimes I also keep my finger on the screenshot key, because there's some great visual reference material for various purposes. The whole show feels like it was written for skirmish gaming, at least if you're a wargamer...

I'm already so deep in the ~1929 New England/Chicago setting that I probably won't be switching any time soon, although there's a lot of overlap which can be exploited. For example, I just painted some Footsore/Musketeer interwar, which can be used as an Irish contingent in US gangster wars, but they might actually fit even better to the PB setting.

Matchbox makes some great 1910s cars, which can be found quite easily.

When it comes to rules, Pulp Alley feels like a decent pick for small gangs with strong characters. It offers many handy tools for narrative-driven games without getting stuck to small details of equipment and such.

If only someone organised a game nearby, I could definitely bring some IRA or whatever might fit in. :)

I also have a small PB force in the making, using Footsore miniatures IRA and some gangster miniatures. Not sure I will do any gaming with them, just fun to re-create this great series on the tabletop  ;)

'The Chicago Way' is coming soon from Great Escape Games, which would I imagine be somewhat similar to Dead Man's Hand.

Pulp Alley is great for 'serialised adventures' in a Pulp vein, whatever era you play them in, but the accent is on 'adventure' as much as it is on action.

Blofeld,  I have been doing the very same thing.  I ued the Copplestone Gangsters, as there are more unarmed or pistol armed.  For rules we've been using Pulp Alley, as it allows for role play type interaction.  It is a good background for gaming.

I am doing a similar thing too but with a VBCW twist on it and I am using Brigade Games' Mod War figures, which are a pain to source in the UK

Copplestone figures are going cheap at the moment. Footsore IRA are also perfect for the Oeaky Blinders.

As for Rules. Empire of the Dead, 45 adventure, Pulp alley and the new Chicago way when it comes out could all work imo.

Yes, here -  http://www.statuesqueminiatures.co.uk/c/4513058/1/pulp-alley.html

Did you see my recent AAR?  My son in law and I did "The Mayor of Birmingham's Fund Raiser", based on a Vice Alley scenario.

Didn't see the footsore IRA on the site. Must be going blind.

For terrain the Warbases VBCW stuff are really nice and very affordable.

I hadn't until now! Sounds like great fun, definitely tempted by Pulp Alley although the money-conscious part of my mind suggests that I should probably use IHMN as I already own the set. Hmmm... decisions decisions.

Thanks, I was just going to ask for suggestions about terrain, particularly cheap or DIY ideas for terraced houses

Yes, you can get Pulp Alley from the Sally 4th (UK) and Statuesque Miniatures (UK) --
> Sally 4th -- http://wargamesbuildings.co.uk/epages/950003459.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/950003459/Categories/Pulp_Alley_Gaming_Accessories
> Statuesque -- http://www.statuesqueminiatures.co.uk/c/4513058/1/pulp-alley.html

Also, if you'll be at Salute, Chris Abbey will have Pulp Alley at the Sally 4th table.

And you can always download the PDF versions from our Pulp Alley store -- https://store.pulpalley.com/

HAVE FUN
