VSF airship steam powered "75 CL" class
« on: May 15, 2008, 07:12:40 AM »
I can't remember posting pics of this one here, so here it is:

Made from a plastic champagne bottle (a sweets container), an empty fish tin and some stuff from the bit box, the "75 CL" takes off with King Leopold II (free 28mm Perrys giveway figure - Crisis 06) at the helm.  I know the balloon part is still rather plain, but weathering did not work too well on the smooth surface.  Some decals will be added to make the surface less plain as soon as I decide on the country it is to serve....

Not bad, I like the Atlantis plane hanging off the front.

How did you make the propellor? I need to fashion a few myself and have been wondering how to do it.
So many projects..... so little time.......

The engine part sticking out is a soda bottle top, the propellor is cut from a helicopter from an Army Men plastic set I bought for the gun & tent coming with it.  I've made other propellors from balsa, that's easy enough: cut a strip and sand to form.

Great stuff, Geudens. Ingenious use of everyday odds and ends :) Especially the bottle top. I know someone else on this forum who has a fondness for Water bottle tops ;)

Very nice! If the plain appearance of the baloon envelope bothers you you could try adding some cables along the sides. I'm not sure if they are for reinforcement of the structure, mooring, or other purposes, but you can see them on a lot of photos of the originals.

It's from the "Atlantis" (movie) toy range.  The reason I went for it is size & the fact that it is light.
