Nurglings sir! Thousands of'm!

Actually 10 stands of'm.

I absolutely hate the new plastic Nurglings. Hate them. So it was old school all the way for me and my minions. So after making a purchase here and a find there, I had enough Nurglings that had I put them into a sock and hit someone with them it'd of likely killed them.

I thought about how I was going to base these and I knew it was going to be a real pain in Father Nurgles rear end to try and sand between them. No way. Then I had an epiphany! Lightning struck my brain! I'd have them slogging through mud. So I would green stuff, in this case grey stuff, the base then mash them down into the putty. After pushing them down into it I would scootch them forward to look like they were sliding forward through the muck.

On a side note. As I write this I am listening to the Conan the Barbarian soundtrack.

I then made "movement" marks with a toothpick in the putty behind them as they moved along.

And here was the initial stand where I would have a downed empire soldier with a Nurgling over him in celebration. This bit was originally for another scenario and it was missing the leg. Battle wound!

And the finished base. While washing the base with Sepia I had an idea. So while the Sepia wash was still wet I grabbed Baal Red and ran the brush down through the wet Sepia from the wound in his leg to create a blood effect as if it was running away from the wound. I think it came out pretty well. I may add my blood effect to the stump still.

And here are the lads all painted and ready to mingle with the enemy. I wanted the mud to be wet so I used Ard Coat to get the wet look I wanted.

I wanted there to be a trail of ooze behind the Nurglings as they moved so I used a green glaze.

Whew. I can honestly say I am sick of Nurglings. I'm glad they're done. Just need to finish painting the edge of the base to clean it up.

A dash of salt. A pinch of make believe. A dose of wishful thinking. A smidgen of truth. There you now have the recipe for a rumor.

Very good idea, that - and it worked perfectly.
The one with the blue shield above his head is brilliant.  8) 8) 8)

It's their version of the Testudo, Nurgling style.

Very nice!
How about putting a nurgling on top of that shield. Like they are trying to imitate the palanquin. Or doing it with another nurgling

The Old Nurglings do have a charm all their own. Your BEAUTIFUL paint jobs & IMAGINATIVE basing adds to their innate appeal. GREAT WORK!

I tried that initially but the Nurgling didn't sit properly because the shield has a slight curve in it. I then watched a movie called The Eagle and decided to do the Nurglings holding a shield over themselves.

Lovely work in a horribly, revoltingly, putrefying,  decomposing way.

Plaguebearers sir! 50 of'm!

Nothing like painting 50 of the same figure over and over again..then buying 30 more..

All are still a WIP and are in various stages of completion.

What the unit will look like with the unit filler included. Kinda cool!

Love the nurglings and way you have based them up. Lots of character.

Thanks! Sometimes things work out better than I hope. This was one of those times. I was so unsure what to do about basing them. This was a lot cleaner and a ton easier. The glaze also worked better than I had hoped.

Thank you very much for the kind words! The old Nurglings are so detailed. It is really amazing how much detail they got into them between the sores, wounds, maggots, and Worms/tubes. And I like that I was able to get a bunch in a variety of sizes too.

Thank you very much! it really is the Loren Forest wash that puts the decay color into full effect.

Your Beast of Nurgle looks the part...rather like a Mega-Louse. It's the same mini, I believe that Mr. Saturday uses for his Marlewyrm. You can see the minis here for a bit of inspiration:
