A Meeting Engagement...
« on: September 22, 2013, 05:56:27 PM »
Colonel McCormac of the Exmouth Albertines decided to take the fight to BUF at Sidmouth after their recent attack on an Albertine outpost (see 'Siege of the Farm'). He put a force together and headed east...

Spode, now in charge of the Sidmouth Royalists has decided to make another assault on Exmouth, this time with an added platoon of regulars and their support. If he can capture Exmouth he cuts off the Albertine life line...

The small village of East Budleigh was enjoying the lovely weather for the time of year...

Spode and his Black Shorts advance into the village after receiving reports of the Albertine advance.

And deploys his militia to the centre and the regulars to his left flank to take the farm.

The Albertines deploy their militia on the right flank to take the farm.

Their Commonwealth forces to the left flank to take the village.

While the Q landship heads to the centre between the Blue Bell woods.

And the LDV to the centre.

Spode makes the church his headquarters (as its the most solid building in the village) while his Black Shorts debus to take the houses.

The Commonwealth forces rush into one of the buildings to find a squad of Black Shorts rushing into the other side, fierce hand to hand fighting ensues with the Black Shorts being forced out.

To add insult to injury the Albertine mkIV trundles down the Main Street and takes aim...

...and the Black Shorts loose a transport!

Its not all bad news for the Royalists as the regulars take out the LDV transport.

Luckily the LDV had debused and use the smoking wreck as cover while they enter the farm followed by the bicycle mounted LDV.

The Q Landship deploys and takes aim at one of the Royalist Matilda I's...

...proving to be very good shots.

The Royalist regulars prepare to assault the front entrance of the farm...

...to find it well defended by militia and LDV. Another fierce hand to hand combat takes place but the regulars are forced back.

Things really start to go pear shaped for the Royalists as the second Matilda I is taken out even though they destroy the Albertine Whippet and FT17.

And Spodes personal transport is turned into a smoking wreck.

The last of the Black Shorts are forced out of the village and the Royalist side is broken...

The tow for the regulars 2lb is taken out of action before they can hook it up, what's left of the Royalists withdraw...

...leaving a battlefield full of burning wrecks behind them.

That really is spectacular! Everthing is beautiful, but especially the smoke - it's increadibly realistic.

I really am in awe.

Reading that, was almost like watching a movie. Very dynamic action with the BUF and Royalists being beat back at every turn.
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

It's very hard to credit that it has all been done 'old school' with a cloth. Top looking game and report Sir!  :)

Are those little LED lights you've used in your smoke? It looks that way in the last photo!
