Nice details... no idea on the final colour and shape.

Thank you.

I'm certainly getting there slowly!

HELP PLEASE

The black edges of the various pits are going to be hazard striped. Anyone got any advice on how to paint them in so that all the stripes are the same width and angle. There's about 18" of them to do, and I think they'll stand out badly unless they are very even.

I've been thinking of making some form of mask out of styrene to spray yellow through but that seems very fiddly for the various different locations.

Make the mask out of Tamiya masking tape. You can get it very thin, and it is very reusable. That way you could airbrush it...  ;)

Thanks grant. I'd considered using nod cutting masking tape but I'm not sure I'm going to get it even. Tamiya tape would at least always be the right thickness.

I'll have to experiment...

Well I do not know what your diorama will look like but I learnt something today, thank you  :)
I believed I understand English but …"hasard" means random in French so I wondered why "random" stripes would need the same width and angle…  OOOh I did some research and I understood my mistake.

I'm not helping you, but you helped me  ::)

A bit more progress this weekend. I have base coated the hazard stripes and finished the robot 'head', as well as worked out the lifting arrangements and painting up some gubbins for decoration. More (and bigger) pictures on my blog.

ARRRRGHHHHHH!!!!!
I just ran out of yellow airbrush paint!!!

Moral of the story - when airbrushing a large item like a gantry crane, make sure you give it a good undercoat - BUT NOT BLACK!

I messed up and put a black primer on the gantry crane and after about 6 coats of airbrush yellow it was still a greeny colour (yellow has notoriously bad coverage and is very translucent). At the weekend i went an bought a 'sand' coloured flat matt humbrol acrylic primer and hit it with that which is a FAR superior base colour for the yellow. I've just hit it with the first of the yellow top coats and it is covering soooo much better - and then i RAN OUT OF PAINT!

Does anyone know of a model shop in the Warrington/Chester/Worsley areas (that's where i am working this week) that carried Vallejo Model Air paints????

HELP!
