Best Native Americans for ECW/earlier?
« on: September 30, 2013, 02:31:36 PM »
Just what it says--any recommendations for natives pre-flintlock?
It's nothing, sir. Just a burn from a ray gun.

Not sure on spelling however Powahatan indians would be a good buy, I think Eureka sell them. You may be able to press some Norse age Indians such as Skraelings at a pinch? I know someone like Gripping beast released a set however think that was a limited edition

As far as I know, the GB figures are still available, although the SAGA set (with battle board etc) is not...

You could try Brigade Game's "King Phillips war" range - http://www.brigadegames.com/King-Philips-War-1675-76_c_36.html
A little late, but it might give some scope?

The Foundry Blackfeet might also have some conversion potential as there is only 1 with a musket, but they might well be to 'plains'y for what you're looking for...

Foundry did make some Perry sculpted C17th American Indians in the mid 80s, they disappeared years ago from their lists, but with recent developments, may have re-emerged, worth getting in touch with them and asking the question I'd say.  :)

All the Mohawk and Huron in our F&IW Range are armed in a very C18th way - so far  :D

Cheers,
Lance

Yes NurgleHH, that's what I said, all armed with identifiable (not generic) 18th century firearms and therefore not usable for early to mid seventeenth century. "So far" because there will be packs with traditional weapons only .... later  :D
Therefore, I was pointing out that I was suggesting the old Foundry figures as they were designed for the period in question, and would not suggest mine, as they were not  :o

Olglory can be very hit or miss, often miss. They tend to have un natural poses to get varients e.g. heads at weird angles etc also they can be 25mm rather than 28mm

Maybe some of the Crusader Miniatures will work:

I'm leaning towards the Brigade minis. It's kind of strange that there isn't a set of just woodland indians with hand weapons. I'd dearly love a Chingachgook with his gunstock club.

Conquest miniatures does a Last of the Mohicans characters pack, but they all have guns. There ones here and there in their line that have only hand weapons, or have muskets that could be trimmed off.

Just seen a National Geographic booklet called "1621 A New Look at Thanksgiving".
Not a bad book. Lots of good clear colour photos, (from Plimoth Plantation) although mostly settlers rather than natives, but on the plus side you can get it on Abe for just 64p (plus postage).

Hello,

the only serious range of ECW/earlier Indians is offered by redoubt enterprises.

http://www.redoubtenterprises.com/shop/?page=shop/browse&category_id=980fefc5e33e8baf422791208f2bb39f

INDIAN WARRIORS WITH CLUBS AND KNIVES /  INDIAN WARRIORS charging WITH CLUBS AND KNIVES /
INDIAN WARRIORS FIRING/LOADING BOWS  ...

Redoubt matches in size the galloping major figures  - when the corresponding GM packs are available you can mix.

And there is the question of opponents. If you want to use Dutch and English settlers (armed civilians) the Redoubt ECW range offers the best available selection.

You could also look at AW Miniatures. They have some FiW Indians with bows etc and are always open to suggestions
