Kingdom of Heaven source book
« on: October 02, 2013, 01:46:29 AM »
"I, or rather the Lord, beseech you as Christ's heralds to publish this everywhere and to persuade all people of whatever rank, foot-soldiers and knights, poor and rich, to carry aid promptly to those Christians and to destroy that vile race from the lands of our friends. I say this to those who are present, it meant also for those who are absent. Moreover, Christ commands it."
Pope Urban II

Kingdom of Heaven, by Stephen Bennett, is the third source book for Clash of Empires™, charting the era of the Crusades. The book is split into three parts each focussing on a specific time period and series of battles and combatants, plus superbly painted miniatures, covering more than 40 army lists including variants. A free Saladin figure is available for the first 150 copies sold.

DEUS VULT

In a time of vicious religious intolerance, Pope Urban II launches a Crusade to “cleanse” Palestine and “free” Eastern Christians from Muslim rule. This section features a concise historical overview and army lists plus variants including: Early Crusaders, Latin Kingdoms of the East, Byzantine Empire, Great Seljuk Empire, Fatimid Egyptians, Zengids and the Ayyubids under Saladin.

THERE IS NO CONQUEROR SAVE GOD

The second part opens with the reverberations across Europe following the fall of Constantinople and charts further conflict over Jerusalem and the invasions of the Mongols. Includes lists for Later Crusaders, Francocracy, Italian Maritime Republics, Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia, Byzantine Successors, Ayyubid Successors, Mamlūks and the Mongols.

THE PERPETUAL CRUSADE

The final section deals with the mid-12th century forays by Christian Crusaders into the Baltic region in a series of conflicts that lasted over 200 years and gave birth to the legend of Alexander Nevsky. It features lists for Northern and Scandinavian Crusaders, Ordensstaat (Teutonic Order), Baltic Nations and the Republic of Novgorod.

Damn slow writers, can't trust them.

I can't see the picture (I'm assuming it's not meant to be a white rectangle with a red cross).

Is it this?

'Sir John ejaculated explosively, sitting up in his chair.' ... 'The Black Gang'.

Isn't it just. A Steve Saleh sculpt I believe  :)

Picture worked on my machine, Cubs, but your version is much better  :-*

I think my Norton might be a tad over-zealous; I've been getting a lot of little white boxes with red crosses lately.

It's another great model from Steve Saleh and, like everything else of his I've done, it's a doddle to paint. I like the simplicity of the poses and the clean lines of the sculpts; they really are a gift to the painter.

Another top notch miniature Cubster.

And I agree with Janner, the colors are much better in your picture.

It was one of those 'payment in kind' sort of arrangements that I love. It was a chance to paint up a unique min, in return for a rulebook and free min! I'm happy, GEG were happy (I hope), so it was a real win-win.

That was three years ago though (I checked the date the photo was taken - I didn't think it was that long ago!) so I've been on pins waiting for the book to come out since then.

I've done a lot of reading about the Crusades (all of them) and keep going back and forth as to which one I want to collect for. I'm now torn between 1st and 3rd. 1st is cool because then I get to do Normans (Tancred de Hauteville), but then 3rd Crusade has Richard the Lionheart!

But then what about Byzantines? Seljuks? The Frankish Kingdoms of Outremer?

Aaarrgghhhh!! Too much choice!!

This book is going to be one of those wonderful indulgences that I keep dipping into.

The books even seems to contain events such as the Northern Crusades, giving you even more choises.

Im somewhat interested in maybe getting me one even thoe I dont play the game. Looks promising.

I'm sorry to have kept you waiting so long, Cubs.

It was the 1000 word historical intros to each list that took such a long time to research. I'm sure here are some errors in there, but had to draw a line somewhere  ;)

Not sure what's going on with the colours in the photo of your paintwork, Cubs, it's the first time I have used ImageShack. It definitely was not three years ago - all that alien tech you have is frying your memory - but perhaps is as long as a year and a bit.
