I like the look. Love the rusty helmets nice touch.
Are all these metal?

I have a Tomb Kings WIP army and I see some similar min's but mine are plastic.

Thanks for the comments  :)

The only metal miniatures are the Lahmian Vampire and the C21 Undead Cavalryman, the Skeleton Infantry are all plastic from a 1998 release boxed set.

The rust was done by using pigments.

I checked out your Tomb Kings, that's an impressive host indeed  ;)

Cheers.

The skeletons look good. I like the use of green for the shields. It's makes for a nice contrast with the bone and rusty metal.

Thanks Michka  :)

It's the colour of Stirland, as I wanted the unit to represent a raised block of long dead Empire Spearmen from this province, hence also the Hunting Horn detail painted on to the shields.

Looks good!

I always imagined that the shields and weapons were handed out to the newly raised skeletons of commoners by the necromacer and his minions. Or painted in his chosen livery. Otherwise every skeleton warrior would have to have been a real warrior with his own equipment before...

That is UBERCOOL & WELL DONE! It doesn't look like she's raising the Dead so much as nagging him into motion.

Thank you  :)

On the subject of the shields.....

I have always personally hated that GW in the modern era (post 1990) painted all their Skeleton's with Skulls on their shields  :o

It's not unrealistic that a Vampire/Necromancer/Liche would raise complete units from long lost battle fields and this is the look I went for, perhaps an Army of Stirland was defeated and the Vampire raised the long dead warriors to fight once more.....

The leaves are dried out Black Tea clippings (we English drink lots of Tea, so I have a tin stuffed full of dried leaves!!!!!).

I glued them on to the painted base and once they were dry, I mixed Tamiya Clear Green X-25 with some water and applied this liberally to the Tea!

Thanks

I have used a pizza topping mix (oregano and whatnots) for the same purpose :)

Good to see Project continuing.

Forgot to update this thread with the finished unit! Here it is!

They were a treat to paint, as layering on the ancient bone colours and using pigments for the rust was just to much fun

If anyone is interested I will most likely be selling the unit as I collect pre 1991 releases, so aside from the C21 Cavalryman, the rest of the models do not fit with my collection, PM if interested!

I wanted to test the colour palette and technique out first before I moved onto my 2nd and 3rd Edt armies  :D

Cheers

That is one very nice looking army. I especially like the vampire base though. A lovely figure, great idea and well executed modelling and paint job.

Lovely gritty scheme that works REALLY well.

I am tempted by them even though I have no use for them currently.....

Very nice! I love the earthy & ancient feel to them -- and as others have said, great bases as well!
