Super High Gloss Varnish
« on: October 06, 2013, 08:29:40 PM »
As it says on the tin...

Its a new week so its a new project...  ;D  Am painting some 54mm figures in the ole Britains style.

Am using acrylics but would like the   traditional toy soldier gloss finish.

Have used some clear gloss wood varnish, 3 coats so far, but not really getting that enamel shine.

Any suggestion? would yacht varnish do it?

Cheers

The highest gloss finish I have ever got is Future Floor Polish. However I am not sure this is what you are looking for.

I don't know the name in english, I was using a aquarethane product called "vitrifiant" in french (roughly translated "vitrifying"). It's used for wood floors, and give an extra gloss finish. The product itself is like acrylic paint, almost odorless, and fast drying.

I was usin it for pinball game field. Really, really gloss (everything reflects on the gloss surface like on a mirror).

It's the most glossy product I ever tried  8)

Cheers guys.

I went with to ronseal yacht varnish In the end. Great stuff, very shiney :)

Not great over white, as leaves a yellow stain. I just touched this up up with some white and then Tamiya x22 varnish.

Cheers
