Black Army - First THREE Sculpts for 1933: A Nation Divided!
« on: October 09, 2013, 11:19:51 PM »
Hot off the presses!!

Here are pictures of the first figure for the 1933: A Nation Divided Kickstarter - a Militia woman, sculpted by Leandro Ventic.

Alex and I are thrilled with the way she came out - we think she's absolutely gorgeous and hope you will too!!

So far, the Kickstarter's done well right out of the gate, with 28 backers and $1466 raised in the first few days!  But we definitely need your support to get to our $10,000 goal by November 15.  We hope this will entice some of you to back for some minis!  http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1926752146/1933-a-nation-divided

More greens to follow in the coming days...

Excellent! And just so you know, Kickstarter doesn't actually take the money from your account until and unless the project meets its funding goal on Nov. 15.  So that's the day you'd actually pay, if all goes well and we reach our target!

One word.  Furlough.   >:(   :'(

If things go well (ends soon and bills not too badly affected) you might see some support although the scale isn't one I am buying now days.

Gracias,

Glenn

Crazy situation for sure and you have my sympathies... but *ahem* current affairs:)

It's a great looking miniature, but at the risk of sounding like an ingrate, I'm not sure about the rifle, it looks sorta odd.  :?

Thank you for the feedback.  As to the rifle, can you suggest specific changes?  I'll ask Alex too when I get hold of him today, because he has a better eye for that kind of detail than I do, but any input I can pass along to the sculptor would be helpful.  Since she hasn't been shipped yet, we can still have changes made if needed!

Hello -

Leandro works fast!  Here are all three of the first set of sculpts - the woman (which you've already seen), a Minuteman (on the left), and a Militia Man (on the right):

Off to a great start!
And Mina, just ask what type of rifle he was tying to go for in the sculpt. The rifle the women Is holding, Doesn't look like a 1896 Krag-Jorgensen.

Its the hand stock to the rear of the trigger guard mostly. Usually this is covered by the hand on most figures in the usual poses, but it looks too thick. The barrel end looks odd too... but depending on the weapon represented though, this will vary.

Here's a picture of a Springfield M.1903 and a Mauser M.1895, two fairly typical rifles in use in the 1930s. There's plenty of others that will come up on Google.

As you can see, the hand stock is much thinner before it actually becomes the butt. Whatever the weapon, it shouldn't be much wider than what a person needs to wrap their hand round it and virtually touch thumb to fingers (give or take 2" or so). For me the figure's rifle curves right where it should, but needs some thinning down. The muzzle end of the weapon should taper slightly too, although some weapons do that more than others.

... I'm no sculptor, but I don't think it will need much work, but will make a big difference to the look of the figure. I can't speak for everyone, but it's the only thing which spoils it for me. Otherwise I think it's a great figure and I must get one for my SCW Militia.

:)

Also just had a thought. That militia man, would make a great base for an Anti-tank assault unit. Uses the Pry bar to help flip tankeets and the to pop tread or hatches.

Great idea!!

Also - FYI, we've asked to have the militia woman's rifle changed to more closely resemble a 1903 Springfield.  Will post new pics as soon as we get them!
