sidewalk size?
« on: October 10, 2013, 02:51:06 AM »
Hi.

I'm scratch building some city buildings, and I got a lot of inspiration from Matakshi's tea House instructions:

http://www.matakishi.com/makingcitybuildings.htm

Now, in his project, Matakishi uses 5cm front sidewalks.

I pretend to add some urban furniture to my city sidewalks: lamp posts, mail boxes, trees, etc.

What size do you consider wargame appropriate?

Thank you for your opinions.

Best wishes.
I know you're too old to play with toy soldiers. So give them to me... NOW!

2" or 5 cm for major sidewalks, 2.5 cm for side streets is what I go with.

Mila and I are going with 2" for sidewalks on the main streets and 1.5" for side street.

I can't wait to see what you're working on!  :D

I use 2 inches/5cm throughout. Wide enough for two figures or one figure with a terrain element: short building stairs, light post, planter, vending machine, hydrant etc. It can also accommodate something on a larger base too (can't have giant gorillas walking in the street now).
If I were representing a big city downtown core I might consider going with 3 inches wide for that area.

Thank you all for your opinions.

Here Remi Bostal uses 1 1/2" sidewalks and they "look" right: http://remibostal.canalblog.com/archives/p10-10.html

So I think I'll use 4cm sidewalks for my little city.

I'll post some WIP pics in a near future.

Best wishes.

I usually go for about 5cm/2" because a 25mm base can fit easily. You might want to adjust them If you are using smaller bases (20mm) or larger ones (30mm). It's really up to your taste.
Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.
