Urban Basing for 30mm?
« on: 12 October 2013, 04:43:07 PM »
Hi all;

I have recently aquired some of Knight Models's Arkham Asylum miniatures (Batman et al).

Does anyone know of a manufacturer of urban/ city scape type bases that would be suitable for 30mm based figures. They are a bit larger than the usual 28mm type figure.

I have never used commercial bases before: normally I just flock and paint but these are rather nice minatures and they have cost me a wee bit so I would like to do them up right.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

I made my own mold but the technique would probably work for you on an individual basis.  I added putty to the base and flattened it out.  Then while it was still wet I scored some groves into it to make it look like sidewalks.  Once that was done I used 60 grit (one of the roughest) sandpaper and pressed that into the surface to make it look like concrete. Then all you have to do is pin the model onto the base.  Here is an image.

The work in progress for the base is here.

You can also build up a plastic rim around a portion of the base to make curbs.

Middle model.  I scribed the curb and gutter into the putty and then pressed the sand paper into the surface just like the other bases.
Hope that helps.

I also ordered some batman miniatures and decided to make some bases while waiting for them to arrive, the article can be found here:
