I own a Sloppy Jaloppy thornycroft, and it's been a pain to build it!

So do I and it has.

Got as far as Chris has and no further, need to crack on.

 

After posting on this thread I completed my slopy jalopy thornicroft today.

Stuck my hands together several times in the process.

I think I'm quite good at model making butthis really stretched me. It was very hard and I'm not sure about the results. Doesn't look much like the picture in the cab department. Fits well with the model of yesteryear renault van though.

Hopefully my austin armoured car will be easier it looks like it might be.

I'm not convinced by the Sloppy Jalopy range myself.  Had a couple of them staring at me for a few years, and have never taken the plunge.  Lledo may be small, but at least they are perfectly formed!

Sadly because I do like the look of the range I have to agree withyou ignatieff.

After putting lots of effort and bits of me (literally some of my finger tips) into the model I was left with that Hmmmm did I really enjoy that........ moment

The HLBS stuff I have is smaller but I really like it more. I have the train and two pulitovs one being a half track. They look as though I'll enjoy putting them together. I'll do a compare shot on these once made.

Tried my Austin Armoured car last night from Sloppy Jalopy, easier to put together but still stuck myself together a few times particularly on the springs, there is always one stubborn one that won't stick. Hope to finish off Wednesday.

I also recently made the Sloppy J Austin armoured car... (currently revving up in round 10 of the LPL!  )

Truthfully - considering it cost a handsome £15.00 GBP - I didn't think it was a very good model.

The basic resin lump wasn't well cast. It had a number of air bubble defects and 'furry' bits. The underside had been sanded - unevenly. The quality of the detail (rivets etc) was noticeably variable on different parts of the body. The metal parts took a lot of de-flashing, and then there were no obvious points at which to attach them to the resin body... You just have to take a guess and stick the bits on by eye, because the instructions are sketchy, to put it kindly... 

So all in all, whilst the end product looks pretty good, I can't pretend I was impressed by the kit in its raw state.

I have a Thornycraft lorry on the shelf from SJ. All cast white metal pieces, not a super fir but few firms make super fits when it comes to cast metal. What bothers me is the lack of instructions.

You are right the instructions could be better.

Made a mistake on the cab because I misinterpreted the instructions on the dash and seat bit. its now 1/2 centimetre longer than needed.

The next one I make will be better and I probably will get another even though I didn't get as much fun out of it as I thought. Includining the mud guards which I cheated on in the end.

I'm another member of the Sloppy Jalopy "On the Shelf" club. Have two Thorneycrofts, and not the slightest clue as to how to proceed in constructing them.

Not impressed. I'll take a malformed lump of resin that I have to stick a few bits of metal to over this any day.
