Thanks all :)

the turn around on this is annoying... stop it...

lol it's naked self-interest. I've had several false starts with this project over the last 10 years. Now I've got the bit between my teeth, I know I have to push hard to get it to a gameable stage now, before my attention wanders off again onto something else. And the whole project goes back into languishing on the back burner for several more years ;D

Anyway, here we go - the first terrain tile, Puerto Caramba, is finished. With and without the separate defensive gun positions...

The trees are just a selection of some of the smaller palms that I already had for my 28mm WW2 Western Desert boards. They have pins inserted up the trunk and simply spike straight into the foam wherever you want to put them :)

These new 10mm pirate boards will, incidentally, be completely compatible in terms of dimensions and finish with those 28mm desert boards. Should I need to create a hinterland for Puerto Caramba.

I am still mulling adding some climbing foliage to a few of the buildings to give them a bit more character - but I've yet to find a suitable deep pink flock to mimic Bougainvillea, which is what i think it requires :)

And here complete with a horde of teeny tiny rapscallions hellbent on plunder! ;)

Next up, I'm going to start on a second terrain tile which will be a couple of small desert islands set in an azure sea... Which will butt up to this first board.

Then some more teeny tiny figures. Probably defenders militia and regular infantry, plus several more pirate cannon teams and a couple more crews.

I really ought to make a start on assembling and painting the 3D printed ships. But with all the masts and spars and assorted bits and pieces, they look fiddly as f*ck, so I am putting that off to a later stage  lol

This is annoyingly good to look at.

Just a thought but could you find anything looking for aquarium sand, they seem to come in all sorts of colours, though I don't know if it'd come in a suitable grade. Feel free to ignore this if you've already thought of it. :)

Indeed. These are actually 10mm, so even more so!  lol

Thanks for the suggestion. Not sure sand would be quite the right texture to represent flowers, but guess it might work :)
I can find several people selling flowering tufts in a deep dark pink, but having difficulty finding anyone selling just the flock on its own  ::)

Thank you :)

I must admit I had seen that one, but it looks almost a pale / salmon pink. Bougainvillea is a very distinctive deep pink verging on the purple. It’s very characteristic of hot climates, so that look is what I was hoping to capture. But it’s only a small detail  :)

@OSHIRO and Why?  Don't have a recollection of such a construct except perhaps as part of an actual battle.  It looks nice as modeled but I'm trying to reconcile the 'why' for it.  And the only reason I can come up with is for the two piers to communicate with one another.  But easy enough to do so on the land along the seawall.  If it were a 'floating pier' of a more permanent nature than pontoons, then I'd see it as just more space for boats to tie up at.  Or maybe it seems like a 'too modern' construct sent back in time, seen such floating pontoons - in metal, hollow rectangles - at contemporary marinas..  Feel free to disabuse me if it is a historical construct.

View of the finished boards looks really nice, the buildings blending in quite nicely with the terrain - and the red roofs and green of the palm trees give it that extra oomph.  And the 'action' shots are great.

I thought it might be too bright but there doesn't seem to be anything closer without making it yourself.

The table/harbour looks great. :-* :-*

Richard, Gamersgrass has tuffs in 2mm so they may suit the scale.
Also do check Greenstuffworld for their huge range of grass, tuffs and flowers.
