The tower's a bit big, so I haven't been able to finish the painting of the frame just yet. I've extended the base and added extra aerials like I said, but most of the techy bits of crap will be stuck on once this part's finished, youknow so I can actually paint the damn thing properly.

Messy, messy table right now. Eugh, its always like that when I'm building something. That pile in the back will be spare pieces and the tower's control building...

Anyway, still lots to do with bit, but the paint's still drying so I can't do much other than post a progress update (well I could work on something else, but Forrest Gump is on and that has my attention). :).

Thumps up! I like this one a lot. It looks not so drained in ink and well weathered. Maybe you could add one or two little Paraboul Antennas on the Tower.

That's the plan. I have a load of them to attach, but I can't until the main tower's finished (otherwise the paint will just go everywhere). The image below is what's on the tower's store page, but I intent to add more crap to my own one. I mean once this thing's built the tower's upper levels won't be accessible through all the crap, so I may as well layer it on (like in the concept art).

Casting? Heh, ah, wha?

Uh... Right?

...

Totally missed your point there, but have a smiley face.  :)

When I say doodas I mean these facade things (the unpainted mdf that're attached, but unglued in this picture). These serve as a place to stick on all the extras and will be painted seperately. Once they're finished and attached I'll fill in the gaps about the main frame with more crap until I think the thing looks packed enough.

...I need to disconnect that hard drive. That thing's been sitting there for something like three years. The memory's burnt out and I've never bothered replacing the parts (it'd be cheaper to buy a new one than fix and upgrade that one, which is like seven-ish years old). Hmph, sad seeing it sit there unused, it was the first PC I ever owned (what? I didn't start using computers till my teens. Now I'm studying to work in HR. ...That says a lot about the quality of HR workers). =(

Something of interest for those wanting to make some urban Fallout terrain. Laser Cut Card (who posts here about the future and modern boards) has a set of art deco ruins which fit right in with Fallout's art style. They'll set you back something like £45 a building, but look great. Hmn, though personally I may have to look into a cheaper alternative (unless its a money burning month). Now one of the things I'd love to do would be to create terrain sets to fit a number of environments. Right now I have terrain which suits wasteland settlements, and am moving into the suburban one with the Polly Pocket houses (which I totally forgot I had ruined versions of that I made earlier), but perhaps later on I can continue urbanising until I have some office blocks or whatever. That's a whiles away, but a guy can dream. Anyway, if I were to make some urban terrain I'd rather buy stuff like this than use generic concrete buildings. As well if I'm going to be forking out cash I'd rather it be for something which fits Fallout's aesthetic than just whatever's going cheap enough (hmn, though I could just stick on some plasticard art deco details to generic buildings). Well, we'll see. Wait till this blog is on page one hundred and something (if I have to focus to bother taking it that far) and you can take bets on how many of these plans actually come to fruition. ^^'

@ aliensurfer

Bah, space‽ I've just cleared out a cupboard of old junk, only to fill it with more up to date clutter (namely bags and boxes of models). Tsk, you don't need that space where your washing machine is! :)

The last few days here have left me hiding away in the shade clearing out the crap in my house. As my painting area has been covered in crap which I found in boxes that needed to be sorted, that kind of made working on anything a little difficult. ...Somehow I did paint something though, so here's your lot.

I found that in a doll's house shop for £3. I suppose it fits the style (though I did want to add a big vent on the front bonnet, but couldn't my hayfever/laziness meant I couldn't be bothered) and period, and well those old converted ambulances are cool. Ooh, it just struck me I had a Doctor's Bag as one of my scavenger token markers (which I posted way back, its one of Miniature Mojo's bits) that would look appropriate sitting next to this thing in games. ...I mean if we ignore the crudely written words "No Medicine" scrawled across the rear window by its former owners (which I assume the mobs didn't respond to well, as the interior's covered in blood and their a mummified corpse on the front seat).

No, it didn't strike me at any point that I should turn that into the car from Ghostbusters (...which is to say there was more than one of these in the shop, this was just the cheapest/in the worst condition. You won't see me spending £5 on a post-apocalyptic vehicle, no sir).

Besides that I've picked up a load of Plasticville buildings as part of a trade for a copy of Dark Future I had a hold of. They amount to three caravans and a diner, which are all already built, but won't take much to take apart again. Why would I do that? Well I looked at them and thought they're too big and interesting to have just blocking up space on a table, so I've decided to have a go at making interiors for them. Yup, that doesn't sound like it'll be a bitch of an effort at all... But anyway, that's a job for another day, but I'd like to have them worked on after the radio complex thing.

On that topic the tower's now mostly assembled and painted, its just a task of adding on all the extra bits and bobs onto the frames that're now attached to the main tower. I also have the fuel tank thing mostly painted as well, but its low on my priorities. Now the effort's finishing the building itself, which I haven't worked on since my last update on the subject. I picked up some textured placticard though which will be used on the hatch thing to make it look a bit more interesting (see, my slow pace turned up something positive), so that'll be worked on at some point soonish.

And... (Yeah and, what I haven't updated in two days I have things to spiel about), I was given a load of foam to work with too by my club. That'll be going towards ...uh something, probably urban buildings, at some point. What I did do with some off cuts though was put together the basis for a statue. Its really basic right now, and really was just to give me an impression of what the stuff is to work with (ie its a bitch to cut without the proper tools), but depending on how that goes I'll see about posting what has been done once it reaches a more tidied state. Hell even if it does turn out crap I suppose it could work shoved in with some rubble or something. ...At this point it does look a bit like a cologne bottle though.

That's the big things as far as I can recall. The crates still need logos painted on them, but I've not been on my laptop enough lately to use a reference for those. Its not much work, so I could finish them easily, its just being bothered. Anyway, time for me to go find somewhere where it isn't ridiculously hot to slink away to and curl around a frozen pack of chips. =)

*Argh, I accidently deleted everything I wrote here, so bugger, here's what I can remember.

I didn't do much yesterday (ref its too bloody hot and my house doesn't have air conditioning, so I went outside instead). Rather I was on a hunt for some textured plasticard, which unfortunately resulted in me finding out that no shops in Glasgow sell anything of the sort any more (though I do have some being ordered in at least). I was looking for some particular bits and bobs, but at least found a few alternatives. Instead I wound up buying a few things that'll probably not be worked on for ages, but they're there if I ever need something to do. Perhaps their use might not be readily apparent for those who haven't played the original games, but that includes ten assorted pigs and hippos for making something not unlike molerats ...apart from they oink. ;)

Hmn, what else can I remember...? Ah, yes, the cologne bottle. I've put some more work into my pre-war statue. So, here's the first shot it I think's been posted:

The core's some diamond shaped foam layered on top of each other then covered with milliput to give it shape. Is the head the right size? It works out as three heads for the torso, so I think that's probably proportionate. It'll be standing on top of a plinth once its done (the thing its on right now is just a stand for when its curing), but I'd rather finish it first before working on the rest of it. This one will be free standing rather than being inserted into a wall probably just as ...well I don't have any pre-war art deco buildings made yet to stick it on. Anyway so far I don't think its turned out too bad, I mean its the first time I've really worked with either material (milliput's just been used for making a base shape to sculpt over mostly).

Anyway... My painting area's covered in crap right now so I can't work on anything till that's dumped somewhere (I mean sorted out correctly and deposited in the proper manner). I'd like to have the tower done sometime soon, but that's down to the sun not being a bitch (well and hayfever too, my house is just full of dust). So failing that it'll be the statue which is worked on, as I can do that anywhere (though how often do you see a guy sculpting on the train?).Right, in any case I'm off to buy some ice cream and complain about the weather (like a proper British person).

It's such a sweet model I thought it would make a good one to cast and sell, although it's totally uncastable.  ;)

Well uncastable perhaps, but its an mdf kit made by Fenris games. ;)

The statue's progressed it a bit. It just needs to have a pair of ears and a finished nose (I ran out of milliput when originally making that part, so its missing nostrils), plus the base is half finished.

That's my first shot at ever sculpting a face, so be easy on the criticism if you'd mind. The left side has a chunk out of it. Its not a facial feature.^^'

As the thing's almost done there's probably no point in posting any more WIP shots. My painting area's covered in crap which needs to be cleared, and well, I've been awake for thirteen hours already, so any painting isn't going to happen today. Updates tomorrow then maybe, if I don't fall asleep immediately after work. =P

Giant moustaches!

Bird crap too, but I felt that wouldn't the best opening line... Hmn, well making this wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Its perhaps a bit out of place compared to the other terrain that I have at the moment right now. For the moment I guess it can sit in the middle of a park or something along with my suburban stuff, though its aimed more at standing outside of an office block. Whatever I'll probably make more of these, or well at least statues and other free standing art pieces, should I ever get around to making urban architecture. Right now I'm stuck way out in the wastelands and barely moving into the suburbs though, so it'll be a while before that happens (or I just make them anyway and continue with my schizophrenic building habits).

Anyhow, other painted crap incoming whenever I can be bothered to finish it. Taking bets on whether I come out with something entirely new before I ever get around to finishing any of the stuff I already sitting mostly finished on my painting table (hmph, I wanted to make a guy in Raider Iconoclast armour to go along with this actually). :)

Liking the 'tash and buttons.

Wonderful for a soviet themed concrete city, "Pripyat" :D Include a little Metro and STALKER in your FO world. ;)

Well I do happen to have a lot of Soviet vehicles and military hardware from that period, just a pity there's already a Pripyat blog up and running on this board already. =(

Oh yeah, and I distract myself enough with stuff just from the Fallout games that I shouldn't start branching out into others. Hmph. ^^'

That statue needs more pigeon crap on it. The ones in game are fairly clean, but I'm just used to seeing statues covered in it around here.

As I'm posting anyway, here's what's now distracting me from painting at the moment.

That's going to be a guy in Raider Iconoclast armour (or at least the concept version of it, which is so much better than the final one), pre-greenstuffed of course. I'm not sure about the shield. I like the idea, but I'm not sure if it actually looks good.
