Ronin mods
« on: November 27, 2013, 09:17:06 AM »
Hi guys
We have been playing a fair bit of Ronin and below are few things we have added or clarified.

Order of die rolling and enhancing in combat.

First the defender decides to enhance priority than attacker can!
As per the rules first the defender decides on whether or not to enhance, the attacker can then decide to enhance after the defender.
1.   Both players roll the die.
2.   First the attacker removes any extra die (enhanced)
3.   Attacker decides to reroll or not and does so.
4.   Defender re rolls any die.

Line of sight.
If a figure is firing at another figure and there is not at least ½ base showing then line of sight is blocked, if the line of sight is partially blocked by ½ base or less then the figure is considered being in what ever cover is blocking the line of sight.

Line of sight into a combat, to fire into a combat the same applies as above for blocking line of sight but the cover from another figure will only be considered light cover for the mods. The same rules apply if you miss the target, i.e. fire at another figure in the combat.

Powerful
Powerful attribute when firing a bow will also get a +1 to the attack roll.

Tetsubo, if you enhance an attack you only get the +1 for enhancing if the figure has the powerful attribute.

Fatigue
Unit in heavy armor has a +1 mod to the roll.

Running. Figures that run will check for fatigue, troops in light and none armor do not check for fatigue from running. All figures check for fatigue from fighting.

For 1-3 fatigues there is -1 to fight, initiative and shoot.
For 4-6 fatigues there is -2 to fight, initiative and shoot
For 7-   fatigues there is a -3 to fight initiative and shoot.

Aquebuse in combat, if a figure armed with an arqubuse fights it will drop the arqubuse, it then takes one Attack CP to change to another weapon.  To pick it up the figure must be in the same spot as the arqubuse was dropped during the Action phase, the figure may not perform any other action.
Yumi in combat. If figure engaged and has yumi in hand he must use one Attack CP to change to another weapon. The figure will not drop the yumi as there was a special carrying compartment in the quiver!
If the figure does not have an Attack CP then it fights with an improvised weapon -1 mod.

Multiple figures in combat.
All figures touching count as in the fight, roll for initiative for all the figures to determine the order of combat.

Defend CPs can be shared with any friendly figures that are touching the figure with the Defend CP. In other words the Defend CP cannot be passed to a figure that is further away then the next friendly figure in combat.

What do you mean by a special compartment in the quiver?

Sorry not really clear but the bow seems to have had a place in the quiver, so the figures does not have to discard it on the ground as I think they had to do if the switched from Arquebus to Katanna.

So some kind of hook to hang the bow on or something?

No I actully think it fit into the quiver, I will take a look at my sources when I get home and see if I cannot post a photo.

We have added one other thing as we have a scenario with lots of those great John Jenings walls.

Climbing a high wall.
The figure must be touching the wall at the begining of his move. During the movement the figure can then be put on the other side of the wall. However, if he is incombat he can only have one Attack CP and the rest will be Defense CPs. But of course a Ninja can use two Attack CPs!!!!

The front of the quiver had a space for the bow to slot into (although not all quivers had this). However due to the length of a yumi, it has to be tied to the quiver so I'm not convinced they'd be able to do so during combat...
So many projects..... so little time.......

Well that sounds reasonable, so they would have to drop the weapon and fight, so at a disadvantage if fired during movement!

In order for the bow to be slotted in I am would the user unstring it? Most bows are stored unstringed when not in use, is that also true of the Yumi?

Or would you slot it in stringed while in battle but then unstring afterwards?

Interesting question, my bows are of course unstrung whenever I'm not using them, however I'm not using them during a battle. The quiver for the yumi along with many horse bow quivers are designed to take a strung bow. I would assume that in a conflict situation the bow would be strung and left strung while 'stored' in it's quiver. Assuming you survive the battle then I would expect the bow to be unstrung and should still fit.

This is what wikipedia has to say on the matter.

"The shape of the curves of a yumi is greatly affected by whether it is left strung or unstrung when not in use. The decision to leave a yumi strung or unstrung depends upon the current shape of the yumi. A yumi that is relatively flat when unstrung will usually be left unstrung when not in use (a yumi in this state is sometimes referred to as being 'tired'). A yumi that has excessive curvature when unstrung is typically left strung for a period of time to 'tame' the yumi."
